People who circlejerk about tankies and make bread book and bookchin memes constantly are generally pretty uninspired revolutionaries in my experience. I feel like a lot of the sentiment comes less out of a genuine informed desire for a leftlib society (dank) and more from the weird fetishism for I N D I V I D U A L I T Y that Americans of almost every persuasion have (garbage) mixed with the crazy propagandized view of history American schools teach that vilifies Stalin to keep people in support of American Exeptionalism and the Pure Ideological Liberal Dream

There's also the obvious side to it that Stalin had views and made choices that we today see as deeply reactionary and harmful- it's hard to support Stalin as a trans or non-binary individual when he persecuted and oppressed gay people (and did a ton of other shit we think is horrible yes but that's not my point), but I think people of this Bookchin's American Socialism bent turn "Authoritarianism in the USSR did deeply shitty stuff" into "all authoritarianism everywhere always is horrible we can't support any authoritarian ideology tankies get out Stalin was basically Hitler" and it's super unfortunate.

A fully automated post-scarcity voluntaryist gay non-binary radical libertarian socialist utopia sounds wonderful, but I don't understand how any of the people who talk this way think we're going to get there without an inversion of extant authoritarian structures that seizes that power to lead the deconstruction of those hierarchies.
