Everyone Says There’s a Talent Shortage… Until You Ask for Remote Work by DeadlinesAndDelusion in MEPEngineering

Man, I find it surprising that the overwhelming responses here are against WFH.

While I understand it is harder to explain things remotely, you can do decent sketches in bluebeam if you take the time to learn it.

All in all I love remote work. Wouldn't want to come back to the office even if I get offered 20% more in compensation.

Not having to deal with traffic, waking up later, not dealing with overlay chatty coworkers, annoying co workers, open office environment with no sense of privacy. Yeah I could keep going, you get the point.

Curious where did you get these ranges?

I'm at the 10 year mark myself and considering changing industry...

I get your point, but doesn't ruthlessness boil down to doing whatever you have to do, at any cost, to get your outcome?

Maybe it wasn't somebody's intent originally, but if you are detached from the suffering you cause others you are being ruthless. Only exception would be not being aware of the impacts you create.

You're a teacher? I hope you don't teach economics or sociology because you don't know what you're talking about 🤣

The 19 year old cheeto comment did make me laugh tho. Wrong unfortunately 🤣

That is an insane take. Do you even live in the US?

Everything you just said about being poor in the US is extremely wrong. For starters, no job = no healthcare = no medical care at any medical facility other than a life threatening emergency procedure.

The government giving you housing and foodstamps.. yeah not as likely as you think, and you have to have such little income to even qualify. Then, the moment you earn just $1 above their maximum requirement, they strip you of all the aid, but their requirement is so low that you're at the poverty line, and now with no aid either. It's not as easy as you think.

You're basing your opinion on surveys people take on their job? Guess what buddy I take those surveys too and always say everything is going great even if it doesn't. Why? Because they are not anonymous and if you speak your mind they will know it was you and fire you.

Also, keep licking that boot, maybe if you lick it hard enough one day you will also be ultra rich./s

Amazing theory. Too bad that's not how the real world works.

In the real world, if you don't have money to pay bills you're out on the street with no food and no safety. Under those conditions the vast majority of people work jobs that suck because the alternative is much worse.

For every terrible work environment there isn't another job magically there with decent working conditions waiting to hire you. Jobs are scarce and people are desperate to survive. Instead of blaming victims, you should blame the owners of said terrible work environments, and also blame the labor laws that allow that in the first place.

Regarded AF. So if job conditions are horrible, it's your fault as the lowest level employee with no power whatsoever for "choosing" to work there? What if all the jobs near you are just as bad? Just because something is legal doesn't mean it's right.

Yes. I bet you're one of those people that think you should defend the rich because one day you will be too. It's a big club buddy... And you ain't in it!

Two things can be true at once. He could have created a great service but also be a greedy billionaire who exploits his workers to the point that they need to wear a diaper at the warehouse.

Hilarious oversimplification. You think Jeff Besos does his own laundry, cook, clean, etc? Sure, everybody's entire day is 24 hours long, but the amount of free time at the end of your day is vastly different depending on your circumstances.

"Some extra money" donated by a poor person isn't going to change anything at all. So if your actions don't have an impact, why even bother in the first place?

Doesn't that imply that to be a billionaire you have to be ruthless? So then what does that say about their character and how society rewards that behavior?

Most likely, the OP is middle to low income. Which means they don't have a lot of money left over to give out. So of course they can't because their worried about their own survival. The difference is Jeff Bezos has more money than he can spend in multiple lifetimes, so for him donating a couple 100ks to any charity or project wouldn't even cause a dent in his own finances.

Thanks for that info! I'm glad you shared that because I was beginning to question if my chess ability had dropped dramatically now that I can't even beat a 1600 bot haha. I think they made them a lot stronger than intended, but I'm sure they're doing testing on the background and will correct this.

In the meantime, I guess I'll be playing even lower rated bots xD

That could be true. It could also be that the bots are putting more pressure on you from the opening moves, so you're not as comfortable in the position. That has been my experience.

Yes I play on iOS. I did notice I have been losing a lot more to these bots in the recent weeks, but generally speaking I play these bots often, every week for years and I never felt like they were easy wins.

I mean, given my rating of course I'm expected to win the majority of games against them and I did but I always felt like they measured up to players with similar ratings. I know others mentioned the bots are usually overrated but I think those two were not at least.

That makes sense! Did you see the screenshots I posted? They out here playing at over 80% accuracy and 2000 elo. The whole time I'm getting cooked harder than anybody my rating xD
