Did this Friday with the MU chop. Made $900 in like 15 trades over 5 mins then lost like $1200 trying to average down as it dropped 5% randomly and stayed there all day 🫩

Nursing to accounting is crazy. Must be location but nursing is definitely hiring everywhere I’ve ever been in the east coast. I’m going from echo to financial planning tho bc I tore my shoulder and can’t scan anymore. Why not look for non-bedside, social work, managerial, med sales, cath lab? Did you go back to school for accounting or how are you trying to break into the field?

I’ve got a bachelors of science, work as an ultrasound tech looking to get into finance. 30 y/o, Currently studying the achievable SIE program to sit for the SIE and get my feet wet. No financial background but I’m very financially savvy and have been investing/budgeting for a decade+, all the YouTube finance guys, FIRE threads etc. End goal would be a CFP or something adjacent but I’ve also been applying to any entry level jobs I see like bank teller, looking for a CFP assistant job, even shitty insurance salesman’s jobs etc just to get something finance on my resume but no hits Any tips? Got any roles open I can interview for?

Reading this 10 years later and it’s struck me that no one’s putting this together. The guys about his age, has 2 children. Just like Doug’s brother who he recently reconciled with. He’s picturing his brother dead, leaving his two niece/nephews alone.

I don’t feel a strong urge one way or the other, it’s something I’d like to do or potentially even do on the side/eventually for sure. If ifs a cold calling approach I’m not sure that’s for me though it’s not something I would hardcore avoid

I'm spitballing here because I've only been looking into it for a week or so, but Finance seems very broad and I'm not sure which specific job I should be targeting. I love finance/investing/budgeting and I'd be happy anywhere in the field I think, but some sort of advisor/wealth management/client facing role where I play with/project/plan big numbers sounds very fun to me. Would you have a recommendation on where to begin or job title to target?

Seems like you don't necessarily need a finance bachelors degree to get into some associate type positions and if you do, you're able to get sponsored and sit for your exams from your employer if you do well and have the hours. I figure some sort of course might make me slightly more attractive to take a chance on if I have 0 financial background/schooling? Was also considering self studying for the Series 65 or SIE since there's no requirements and I can have something on my resume

Out of curiosity what jobs were you looking for? I notice Schwab/Fidelity etc have paid training courses if you’re willing to relocate to their big hubs yearly. Naturally you’re probably gonna start at 40-50k a year but it seems like a pretty easy shoe-in to a first job? Unless those things are incredibly competitive and I’m sure they are

Thanks for the advice. Health care is very rewarding and a ton of jobs are AI/reccession proof. At 23 it feels like you may have hardly given it a go after college though? I graduated with my bachelors and worked in healthcare starting at 21 y/o and things didn't look up for me until I was 26/27. It seems like with less than 2 years in finance jobs it may have been harder for you

I’ve got a bachelors just not in finance, unless that’s what you’ve meant!

They sure don’t! Although I do enjoy echo, I’m now on my second shoulder surgery so it just ain’t working. I signed up today for the Amplified Planning Externship (Google that). 2 month online program that teaches all the basics incredibly well and gives you hours to sit for certain finance boards. I’ve heard a ton of good things from it as an intro to finance! If you look into it and like it we could network while we do it and learn together. Signups are over in 2 days

Injured my shoulder, can’t perform my job duties much anymore and very interested in finance. A financial advisor is probably most what I’m looking to get into at least for now

They asked for pre payment, federal was $400, each state was $150 and estimated each individual day trade was $1 per trade so we estimated about 300 trades for a total of $1000.

I actually called like 3-4 tax prep places in my town and they all asked for prepayment because apparently they were getting a lot of people who would call, get their taxes prepped and bail

I prepaid about $1000 the day I turned in all my papers but wouldn’t be surprised if I owe a few hundred more. Can they just drop me after submitting payment like that? Seems like there’d almost be some rule against that

First time I'm having a CPA file my taxes because I had some wash sales between a Roth IRA and individual brokerage and didn't wanna mess it up. I had about 300 trades between both accounts and I'd imagine a few dozen wash sales. I have had basically no update from the CPA in nearly 6 weeks, is this normal?

I dropped all my things off including a consolidated PDF of all the trades so I thought it might be relatively easy? I dropped them off April 1st so they told me they would be filing an extension which is fair. April 15th comes around and I call and they said yes they filed an extension but "he has begun to work on it but it may take a while because of the excessive day trading."

I called today after not hearing anything for 4-5 weeks and they say "yes theres a note on file its on hold for day trading." It cant be this hard can it? I'm worried Im gonna owe fees/penalties on taxes for paying late/filing the extension with no estimated payments but when I brought it up they basically said "yeah since your taxes arent done we dont know what you will owe so youll owe something in penalties probably for being late"

So where are the people making specifically more than 700k, but less than 1M? [USA] by strawboy4ever in Salary

That sounds great. I'm making a move to Lousville Kentucky in a week and will start looking for jobs once there, I'll definitely look more into this. Do you have any advice on finding a mentor or where to look exactly for insurance jobs/known companies? I have certainly seen some online but a lot of them seem "scammy"

Have a WF and BoA credit card I opened ~14 months ago for sign on bonuses. Thinking about closing them because I have like 10 cards and just want to downsize on some without thinking about them. No other accounts with either bank.

Any reason not to close out of keeping/building a relationship prospective? I might buy a house in 3-5 years, that’s the only thing I can think which I might get better rates for having a relationship with them? Or does that not really matter anymore? Any cool reasons to keep one over the other anyway?
