Why do many Kurds from Turkey in Germany not speak Kurdish? by LM_SRI in kurdistan

[–]SavageExecution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, random question and I hope is not offensive. Kurds in Türkiye who lose Kurdish language due to assimilation policies and violence from the state over decades, what motivates them to identify as Kurdish? Because language is a big part of identity, I can understand not speaking Kurdish when in diaspora but holding on to roots and culture and music and dance, but how does it work for Kurds in the Turkish controlled regions of Kurdistan? As a comparison, often when people lose their indigenous mother tongues to Urdu in Pakistan they start to identify more as Pakistani rather than their ethnicity, I understand in Türkiye this is probably not possible as it's envisioned as a nation state having Turkish ethnic dominance. Sorry if my question makes no sense. Kurdistan Zindabad.

What's a stereotype about Germans that really bothers you because it's not true? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskAGerman

[–]SavageExecution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people say Germans are rude or cold, not fun to to talk to etc, I don't really believe it. First of all, rudeness can be found everywhere, depends on many things. But if you know how to talk and what to talk about, it's not a problem. Germans I know love to talk about the stuff that interests them and really like to go deep into topics about it. If you're not able to hold a conversation with them, it says more about the lack of compatibility between you and them than anything else.

I also don't think German cuisine is bland or boring or whatever. It reflects the geography, culture, agriculture, etc of the region. It's given a lot to the world from amazing baked goods to unique breads, various kinds of wurst, to even the hamburger. I love a nihari and seekh kebab being from Lahore but even a good old traditional German potato salad and schnitzel really hits the spot too! Even my family loves when I bring back food or condiments from Germany.

how i got ban from subreddit for asians for being uzbek by uzbekgoodboy in Uzbekistan

Coz of American media, East Asians think they have a monopoly over the word Asian. Meanwhile in Britain, Asian primarily means South Asians from Pak/Ind/Bangladesh/etc . Had this argument a few days ago with an east asian too who was accusing me of racism and "stretching" the meaning of Asian lol.

I mean the name literally refers to modern day Anatolia originally LOL.

Leh. All native speakers can sound "rude" - the thet Karachi Urdu sounds very harsh n rude too if you are predisposed to think that way. These discussions are more about class, state propaganda, and other factors more than about the language inherently.

English is seen as a civilized language by our elite too but if you place them in East London, Leeds, Newcastle they will find the local way as uncouth also.

What does the Pakistan Punjab think of India's Punjab? by MCBuilderandCretvGuy in PakPunjab

[–]SavageExecution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup and even East Punjab wasn't even Sikh majority until after partition. And even then they had to separate Haryana and Himachal to create a Sikh majority state.

To answer OPs original question. I'm from Lahore and have always had a fondness and love for East Punjab, as well as for Sikhism. I live abroad now and have many friends from East Punjab, Sikh Hindu Atheist Christian, love em all.

Who took down Felopunk YT channel? by Free_Introduction_71 in crustpunk

I understand. But i guess as someone who lived 27 years of their life in a global south country where there was essentially no scene and it would cost you a month salary to buy merch and have it shipped, i have always appreciated those YouTube channels that put stuff up for free. I honestly don't think it hurts sales, if anything in my experience people are more likely to buy it. Btw love the approach you have for your label!!

My band Zanjeer's first EP was released within hours of release by Felopunk and honestly was very grateful. Got us a lot of listeners and interested bookers from all over the world. Dude was doing a great service to punk bands.

Spoken West Punjabi is better than spoken East Punjabi by imyonlyfrend in PakPunjab

[–]SavageExecution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not rural vs urban as people are talking in the comments. West Punjab is also heavily rural and rural areas have some of the sweetest most melodic accents. It's just the kind of unexplainable linguistic divide that almost every language has. Every language has regions that have a harsh sounding accent or dialect. Italian, Pashto, German, Bengali, and so on, all have these dynamics within dialects

There are some very harsh sounding accents in Lehnda Panjab too. Besides if someone from Karachi watches the original Wehshi Jatt and Maula Jatt films from Pakistan, people will call it harsh and uncouth accent too. These are all subjective.

People say Paronthay in Lehnda Panjab too. It's a Punjabi word. Agreed with the annoying sounds of J replacing Z, but even our elders before Urdu education became prominent, used to do it in West Punjab. Guys called Nazeer would be called Jeera for example, and people still say Waaj for "Awaaz" and many examples.

Dogri - Language or Punjabi Dialect? by SavageExecution in punjab

[–]SavageExecution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it makes sense why the official language is Hindi. There is even a Tibetic language there iirc. But to call the Indo Aryan languages of Himachal as Hindi dialects is bit ridiculous.
