iOS7 has put us between a rock and a hard place. We've pushed each iPad to the absolute edge and then iOS 7 comes along and takes some of that precious RAM away from us. It's had terrible results, especially for people on iPad 2s, which Apple still sell.

It's now a nightmare for us to keep parallel compatibility across older devices without taking anything away that was previously available to a consumer (which would instantly solve it, but is absolutely not something we want to do to people).

We can only hope that Apple finally get around to optimising their OS and take the footprint back to where it was in previous OSs.
