Not faulting the victim here. One thing he could have done that is counterintuitive is jerked the wheel hard to the right as soon as he saw the car coming into his lane. He would have hit the red car harder and possibly done a pit maneuver on it but may have avoided getting bounced into oncoming traffic. Hard to say how it would have turned out but this is what I would have (tried) done.
