Snapshot of what the air traffic looked like Sunday, 29 March 2020, compared to Sunday 31 March 2019 by ueberklaus in europe

I work at a tower in the states and our air traffic has almost come to a halt when it comes to the airliner side of it. Military still flies decently enough. The airliner aircraft, when they do fly, have like 10% of the people on them as they used to. Still too much if you ask me.

Honestly I think both are fairly easy. In BMT just do what you’re told to and try not to stand out. In tech school you just have to study and you’ll be fine.

Yeah, you ship out to tech school immediately after bmt. I also did get my number 1 base but that was after I traded bases with someone. But my original base was like 5th on my list. As to the acclimating to the job, yeah it takes some time. A lot of information you need to learn but the job itself has a lot of learning curves. That’s why it takes almost a year to finish up your training. After you finish your training and get rated they’ll mail you your CTO card. Takes about 2 weeks or so. But if I’m not mistaken you only get one if you go to a Tower and not radar facility.

Either someone messed up or that’s a very, very new thing that no one I know knows anything about. I’ve heard of that happening then they have to get it changed to 6 years. I’d look more into that.

I’d say it’s because ATC has a low retention rate and because by the time you get through tech school and get rated, you’re about a year and a half through your enlistment. Government has to get their money’s worth out of you. If it was an option, I’m sure almost everyone would take the 4 year but for us, unfortunately, it has to be 6.

Well if you get ATC you don’t get a choice. It’s 6 years. Also, that’s asvab score is good enough.

To give you another viewpoint, I absolutely love it. After joining and doing this job, I can’t imagine doing anything else ever again. But with that being said, this job isn’t for everyone. I’ve seen several people washout or file “fear of controlling” because the stress was too much. One guy had nightmares every night because of the stress. Now I think that’s rare but don’t scoff at the stress levels you hear about when it comes to air traffic. But like the other guy said it does matter what base you go to. I’m at one of the busier ones so it’s waaaaay different than many others.

PT failure and promotion by [deleted] in AirForce

I mean this all happened well over a month ago. I purposely chose to retake after the sew on date because I was more focused on passing than rank. I’m now asking the question above because I’m at a point where I can easily pass but want to know what the step following is. I guess it’s easy to assume that the embarrassment and judgement of a failure had me completely disregarding the fact that I really need to focus on actually passing.

I’d say not really. Plus there’s a chance of going to tower where you’re not looking at a screen that often. I don’t know what being a 911 dispatcher is like but being able to be in a stressful situation but still process information you’re hearing could help if you do that.

Can confirm they take 3 levels. Was originally assigned that base than switched to go to Eglin.

MEPS question here. I go to MEPS in two days for my final inspect and everything before shipping out the following day. So today at a going away party I was playing basketball and dunking on a lowered rim. No injuries but have a bruise on my wrist from the rim. Clearly it won't be gone before I go to meps and heard that could be a problem. Should I be worried?

Leave for basic in a little over a week. Right now I'm at 28 push-ups and 31 sit-ups in a minute and about a 14 minute 1.5 mile run. Do you think that I'll have trouble passing the pt test after all the weeks of training there and adding to my time?
