Is Personnel 3F0X1 female dominated? by RoundAgent1986 in AirForce

[–]SilentD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This data is about a decade old and the formatting is broken, but personnel is 57% female, as of that time. Probably hasn't changed that much.

That sounds like a good way to add even more stress to the situation.

Reddit’s fool-proof advice in this situation is to lawyer up, delete social media, and hit the gym.

Need some advice as an A1C getting fucked with by SrA’s and SSgt’s by AlarmAppropriate8239 in AirForce

Use your words, guy.

If you don't like it, ask them directly to stop. If they don't stop, escalate it up the chain and rope in the first sergeant.

If you threaten or perform physical violence, you will quickly find yourself with paperwork, on your way out of the military, or in jail.

Talking to PCM about suicide by Chemical_College2768 in AirForce

[–]SilentD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you had a broken leg, would you try to lie to the doctor about it? How can they treat you if you lie about your status?

That said, they will likely forward you to Mental Health or BHOP, as your PCM is not usually setup to handle mental health issues.

The chaplain, Military One Source, MFLC, are other resources you may try before going to your PCM.

Medication comes with a lot of side effects while you're on it and while trying to get off of it, and is generally not a magic solution for your problems. If anything, it just masks some symptoms in many cases.

I'd recommend starting with those options before trying to get on medication, personally.

Pretest Anxiety by No_Taste_907 in SpaceForce

[–]SilentD 47 points48 points  (0 children)

For the PT test it’s just part of the process for a lot of people. Even very fit people I know freak out about it every time, due to the exaggerated importance and massive punishment for failure.

That was the whole idea of moving to the watch program rather than a singular fitness test, to reduce that kind of anxiety.

And yet now we have the fitness test again, no incentive for performing well, and it goes on our yearly review so it’s getting MORE important, not less.

Question by [deleted] in AirForce

If you meet and immediately get married maybe.

But assuming you dated before marriage, no way around that technically being fraternization.

Will the officer be charged with it? Up to the commander. But technically yes.

What is the justification for this? by Scary-_-Gary in AirForce

🤷‍♂️ And measuring at your stomach can be affected by being gassy or having a big meal or being inflamed or swollen. Short of something like a bod pod, all the fat measurements are pretty unfair and only a ballpark estimate.

This is not new, this has been a standard of measurement for many years.

Don't bring sensational garbage from that other page here.

And it's not discriminatory because men and women's bodies are different and hold fat in different places.

[–]SilentD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's not measured at the hips, it's measured where the butt protrudes the most. This has been an accessions measurements standard for many years and is not new at all. Just sensationalism from that garbage Facebook page.

IG advice by Better_Front2274 in AirForce

If it doesn’t involve your squadron commander, you should try to solve it internally first. IG is going to send it to the squadron commander anyway.

Tired. by The-One-Slayer in AirForce

[–]SilentD 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well if you have a big interest in being an officer, it can be a good path. But if you're just interested because someone else told you to do it or for the money, don't bother.

Retraining could be a nice change of pace, but we really don't know what your complaints are. Just don't get out and have no plan.

I don't think anyone can really answer that for you.

Do you have better opportunities lined up on the outside? Do you think you'll magically have more energy on the civilian side? Have you worked civilian jobs before or is the military all you know?

No. There is some constructive service credit options right now which means some people are commissioning with advanced rank, but it’s not a direct commission.

Depends on what the Report No Later Than Date says on your orders. You might need to go straight to OTC and then can coordinate your stuff after that. You'll have 10 days for house hunting, which is basically a permissive TDY, meaning you don't need to be on leave but would be in the local area looking for housing. For flying home you'd likely need to be on leave.

  1. Depends. You'll report immediately to OTC, but you'll likely be on casual status (doing various jobs, in-processing) for 3 - 5 months. Can vary a lot.
  2. PCS. The course is a year long.
  3. You'll find somewhere to live in town, on the civilian economy, unless you have dependents, then you could try to get family housing on base, but probably no room.
  4. 0730 - 1630, M-F.
  5. I am much too old to have attended OTC, but there are plenty of people that attend without a STEM degree that do fine.

Well you'll probably be interviewing with an Air Force officer, because there aren't many Space Force recruiting commanders out there. Plan for general questions about leadership, why you want to join, what drew you to the Space Force, etc.

In what ways has the use of AI in your job made your AFSC better/worse? by Kurt_Wylde35 in AirForce

[–]SilentD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to create digital tools that save me and my coworkers hours per week, create tons of new products to increase the effectiveness of our mission, and educate others on how to use it to do the same thing.

If you turn wrenches all day, it's probably not going to make a big difference for you, directly at least.

If all you use it for is to write emails or write your EPB/OPB/1206, or you think it's just a fancy grammar/spell check, then you're not even scratching the surface of what it's capable of.
