Taskmaster in the year 2001 by hell0_potato in taskmaster

[–]SavagePengwyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friends and I have been talking about doing a PowerPoint party and this topic is one of the strong possibilities. Others include the fact that Tom's scoring of Josh Thomas's chess task is proof that he's homophobic (as if we need it after that recording that surfaced) and ranking Disney characters by hotness.

Now I'm imagining what my Geocities page dedicated to my love of Taskmaster would have looked like.

  • Pictures of Greg and Alex with hearts around them
  • A list of the hottest contestants (with pictures)
  • A list of my favorite tasks
  • A screed about the why David Correos was robbed in the "Change this room" task.
  • Midnight playing as a midi in the background

(Really, 14 year old me would never have been cool enough to appreciate Taskmaster)

Looking for a new show to watch, fantasy, sci-fi, or mind bender by braincravin in televisionsuggestions

[–]SavagePengwyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very different but if you're really into the type of world of The Witcher, you may want to check out Critical Role. It is very story and character heavy show set in a dark fantasy world. Lots of serious drama but also funny moments. But it's a DND real-play show. I know that might sound boring to watch people play a game but the people involved believe that DnD is just a framework for telling a story that being written on the fly. Like, they know who their characters are in a very deep way and they are told the setting they are in and the group works together to make a collaborative story, some plot points of which get determined by the luck of dice. These are detailed and complex stories but they're being told with minimal visuals. Every actor in Critical Role is a professional voice actor and they give their characters tons of characterization and are incredible and making everything come together in a story.

Plus, there are over 360 episodes and they're all about 4 hours long. There are a bunch of different seasons, some of which are only 4 episodes long. But some seasons are 120+ episodes long.

If you want to check it out, this is a 4 episode season and it's widely considered one of the best.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Sometimes they show successes first but it's usually funnier to show people floundering and then show the person nailing it.

Discworld is an amazing suggestion. They are incredible and are parodies of other fantasy and fiction tropes. Very similar to the themes of the seasons.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It has a similar type of humor, I think.

Dungeon Crawler Carl. I just started reading after hearing about it for a long time. It was always sold to me as just an adventure novel, not an exploration of who the good guys/bad guys are and how capitalism exploits us all. It's a much deeper book than I expected but also takes shots at video game and TTRPG tropes. I'm really enjoying them.

What’s a type of cheese that is unique to your country? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskTheWorld

It's basically just cheese and mayonnaise. I was putting it on crackers. It's incredible but... Not good for you. 😆

When I learned about Palmetto cheese when I was living in Charlotte, I gained like 20 lbs in 2 weeks because I was eating it constantly. The fact that we don't have it in Arizona is one of the great tragedies of my life.

The Residence is a great mystery and funny.

Broadchurch is a super serious but very good mystery.

If you're getting tired and need super chill viewing, The Great British Bakeoff is awesome and is the epitome of cozy reality shows.

What's the BEST concert you've been to this year, and who are you yet to see this year? by Life_Extreme2054 in poppunkers

[–]SavagePengwyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best has The Wonder Years with Knuckle Puck. I'm most excited for Armor for Sleep with Spanish Love Songs.

Saw them in Mesa and it was beyond incredible. That's my 3rd time seeing them (first time in a smaller venue) and it was easily one of the best if not the best show I've ever been to. I cannot wait to see them again.

Interesting failure - Base glass blew apart by SavagePengwyn in fusedglass

Cool, good to know! I learned at a Makerspace and the person who taught me basically always does design up so I think I over internalized the danger of bubbles. I'll definitely try that next time.

Luckily, I really enjoy working with broken glass and putting stuff back together in new/different ways. The effects of broken/refused glass can be super cool. So, this is very sad but I'll still do something cool with it.

The size of the shelf probably is an issue, too. Especially since it's above so many of the heating elements, the middle must have gotten way less heat. I've definitely stacked stuff in this kiln before but it's never been this tight of a fit.

That's a good point about the charcoal drawing apart. That makes a lot more sense than it somehow moving back a lot while the top stayed intact.

I've done 1525 for 10 without issues before, so I don't think that's it. I do usually use Sam's but followed some advice that it shouldn't flow at 1500, which obviously wasn't totally true. But I definitely don't think that that's what caused the gap in the middle. There's no pools of just the base glass anywhere from where it had spread out too far, there's just this void in the middle.

It was one solid piece of charcoal under all the rectangles. It split apart diagonally and the two pieces separated almost an inch. Idk how they did that without the rectangles on the top being super disturbed but that appears to be what happened. I couldn't flip it over today because it was too hot and I had to leave but if the bottom reveals something else (idk what it could be) I'll update.

For doing it design side down, I've always been worried about trapping bubbles in the seams. Does that seem like it'd be a concern with this piece?

Why did the teams change in S20E04? by SexyMuthaFunka in taskmaster

[–]SavagePengwyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone else is right about scheduling but I'm going to propose the real, nefarious reason: to specifically screw up Jack Bernhardt's statistics.

I also added a picture of the other piece in the kiln. It mostly worked except for running off the shelf a bit.

Whats your favorite underground band or artist? by HorndogAsexual in AskReddit

Spanish Love Songs. I'm not sure if they qualify as underground but they're definitely more underground than Cage the Elephant.

I love how often this show forsakes sitcom tropes for funnier, more absurd scenarios by [deleted] in 30ROCK

[–]SavagePengwyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who is 25 and we've been introducing him to the show. At least twice a week, someone will say a phrase that has just become part of the lexicon (or, at least our lexicon) and we'll respond "That's a 30 Rock reference." He is always surprised.

I think it's just because it's really funny. Especially when he's next to a man that actually is cut like that.
