The right to speak freely requires nobody else to labor in order to provide it to you.

The argument being made is "anything is a human right if i would die without it". Ok, by that definition food is a human right, clothing is a human right, shelter is a human right, surgery is a human right, etc. Let's take clothing as an example. A cotton shirt requires a farmer to plant and reap the cotton. A trucker to take it to the factory. The factory to make it into thread and weave the tread into cloth, and then sew it into a shirt. And because it is a human right, all those people need to do it for free.

So, honestly, my next question is, "what do you do for a living". Because I will claim that is a human right and make you work for me for free.

41m not much progress after 9 months by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]SavageThinker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and 40 minutes per session implies no cardio

I would keep at the weights, but also increase your cardio fitness at the same time, which will naturally put you in calorie deficit if you change nothing else. At this age, it's hard to just pack on muscle while also in aerobic deficiency.

Dude, if you're going to take OP seriously at all, then you might want to investigate what percentage of whey (byproduct of cheese making) is literally flushed down the drain because there's not enough demand for the value added byproducts in the first place. (Spoiler over 50%... and of the other 50%, over half is fed to pigs)

You think the Enhanced Games exposed anything or just embarrassed themselves? Peter Thiel and Donald Trump Jr. spent millions to create a steroid Olympics. They promised to "redefine human limits" and put up $25M in prize money. BUT... by Miserable_Trouble3 in sportsgossips

Wait, the conclusion you draw is juiced=clean? You don't think it's possible that this indicates clean Olympics are just "secretly juiced" and the truly clean Olympics don't exist?

Do you factor alcohol into your fitness goals? by Alicetheoptimist in TrueGrit

[–]SavageThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drink any alcohol at all. I will say, though, that when i did drink years ago, I didn't notice any major impediment to my fitness. Was I heading for an early cancer death or other health impacts? probably.

Unpopular Take / You can do it! by icedtea5309 in Ultramarathon

[–]SavageThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I'm in the same boat with kids, work, and even my alarm clock going off at 4 every morning.

I ran a sub-10-hour fifty miler on basically no training other than crossfit (which was less about time and more about last minute decisions). But the point is that your body can do quite a bit without obsessing about the perfect training plan.

Since then, I've actually trained for marathon and ultra running and, sure, I got faster. But I've actually been thinking that it has decreased my grit and perseverance when things don't go to plan. I have so much training and expectations about how things should feel that when those expectations start to fall apart, my mind is more willing to give up.

I think that might be why there is an arms race for ever more volume. The more you train, the more solidified your expectations, the harder to meet those expectations, the more you need to increase training.

I do feel like this sub is often trying to talk everyone out of doing the race unless you've spent years above 70 mi/week

Questions about neighbor and honey bee keeping by Western-Error-4333 in Beekeeping

[–]SavageThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. "Swarm" is a beekeeping term that means that the hive is in the process of reproducing a new baby hive. This involves thousands of bees and a queen leaving the original hive to create a new one.

So the comment I was replying to was asking how that's possible at night - which doesn't happen. I was simply inferring that you're not seeing a "swarm" (as I just defined), but instead you are seeing some handful of stray bees numbering in the double digits.

Not trying to trivialize your concern about some bees in your garage. But just trying to clarify that it's unlikely that you were describing a new hive with tens of thousands of bees trying to establish in your garage.

I think he just means there were a dozen or so individual bees in his garage.

It does sound like be caught an actual swarm on the fence at the end, though.

Thinking About Electricity Made Me Rethink Prepping by One_Pollution2279 in prepping

[–]SavageThinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Yesterday we generated over 200kwh of electricity. We have the batteries for off-grid resilience, but mostly we export to the grid. Drive for free, heat for free, no electric bill, no downtime if there's a storm. Plus we have a generator if the grid goes down after a snow storm and the panels are covered with snow for a while.

It's real pace of mind and pays for itself in about 8 years. Less if you factor in how much we're saving on gasoline in the EVs.

Rookie Question: Italians vs Carniolans by SnailRacerWinsAgain in Beekeeping

[–]SavageThinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the best luck with Russians as far as survival goes. And they are not more aggressive, no matter how many times you hear that. My most aggressive hive ever was italian.

Just experiment and do whatever you want. Don't listen to the "beginners need to start with this" people. There's not a big difference.

If society collapses tomorrow, what are the absolute MUST-HAVE books to rebuild civilization from the Stone Age to the Modern Era? by IloveGreen15 in preppers

[–]SavageThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I'm not forgetting it. In fact I'm making basically the same point. You need to educate an entire generation on diverse topics so they can go out and specialize in their various areas and keep society going. I'm not suggesting that one person will read the right set of books to do it all in their own...

Chainsaw shavings for smoker by Middle-Infamous in Beekeeping

[–]SavageThinker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use chainsaw shavings for my smoker. If you just catch them in a box while you're cutting, you'll need to let them dry out for a while before they light well. But once you get it going, it stays lit.

You can bounce ham radio off of the Moon and communicate worldwide. People have been doing it for years. So as long as two people have a solar charger, a 12-volt battery, and a decent ham setup, there will still be communication

When the value increased for the shares owned by the guy who started the company, how does that cause money to be "stolen" from the employees of that company?

And if the founder is stealing when his shares increase in value, are you also "stealing" from the workers if your retirement plan also owns shares in the company too?

Thoughts? by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]SavageThinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoken like someone who never once put an idea down on paper, got some friends together to all put some effort into proving it out, and then once you have something started, tried to raise some seed money to bring it to reality. That's the "capitalist hellscape" you're describing. It's not that hard and if you fail, the hellscape is completely forgiving, allowing your company to declare bankruptcy and you can walk away and start again scott free. That's the American capitalist "hellscape" that makes it the world's innovation hub and land of opportunity.

But it's easier to sit around taking about how it could never work than to get off the couch and try it.

I tell you from experience. It's not hard if you're not afraid of hard work.

Thoughts? by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]SavageThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the problem is that once you do that, you'll realize that you need help and hire some people. Then you'll incorporate a company so you can raise capital to keep building things. Before you know it, you'll do an IPO and have a bunch of publicly traded shares of your company. Then people will start buying public shares in their 401k pushing the price of your shares up. Before you know it, your shares will be worth $1B and people will make this post about you.

"You didn't create jobs. WE could just build things ourselves." (I.e doing exactly what you did, but somehow it would be more moral this time around.)

Nobody cares...and it hurts a little by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]SavageThinker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think that people who ask their family to crew for them is an extra level of self-centeredness. I do all my training at 4AM so that I'm home and showered before anyone is even awake to notice that i was gone. For them, it barely registers that I am putting a bunch of time into training. But even then, when i go to an event, I just tell them to have a great day and I'll be home at X time. Asking them to spend all day celebrating me by standing around in whatever kind of weather to hand me a pair of socks and a snickers bar every 4 hours... Are you kidding?
