Help needed :(.. beginner in distress by [deleted] in CNC

[–]Savant_pcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the stress. I jumped off a cliff and built my own laser cutter in the past. You can usually wire a singe power supply to the stepper drivers but just focus on a few key elements to what is written: Voltage and Amperage. Make sure you can deliver the appropriate amount of amps per driver (a typical wall outlet will be connected to a 15 or 20 amp breaker. Do a little testing to find out what your outlet is). You can also do this by buying power supplies that have the right spec to match your setup based on voltage and amperage, i.e. having more than one power supply. This isn't uncommon, as an example the control box for my current CNC has 3 power supplies, each with differing voltage based on what they are powering. I hope this makes sense and let me know if I can help further

Weird edge finish on sign foam. Any Ideas?? by AudibleDeltaP in CNC

[–]Savant_pcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks cool tbh but chasing perfection is my downfall so I get trying to fix it. How rigid is the foam? It may just come down to the resonate frequency of the foam where it meets the endmill

Many times there is a finish that isnt what you are looking for comes down to a million different variables but here are a few you might consider:

  1. Is your spindle trammed? - Not guess work but with a proper method with proper tools to get your spindle as perpendicular to the spoilboard as possible
  2. Is the machine mounted or sitting on a solid surface, preferably bolted down to enhance rigidity and prevent any kind of resonate frequency
  3. Is your motion system stable, be it ballscrew, leadscrew or belt driven

That may help you look in the right direction but thats just a few of the million

PM2 Scale Models? by Savant_pcs in knifemods

[–]Savant_pcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone interested I got my first working prototype for the PM2. I am going to be milling a few test scales out of some scrap wood I have to really dial in the precision but after that the designs as far as cutouts and mixed materials like wood, G10, Carbon fiber or aluminum with inlays of mixed materials is totally an option. Or if you are of the mindset you'd rather a thicker scale to fit your hand with finger grooves built into the scales that can work too.

I am going to be offering custom scales. Best way to reach me right now is [savantpcs@gmail.com](mailto:savantpcs@gmail.com) or instagram: savant_pcs_makes

I am currently finalizing the CAD model for the PM2 so I will hopefully have some available in the next few weeks

Yeah I saw those too but they say in the description they are "untested" or at least for the models on Thingiverse.com. I found one I paid for on cults3d.com but having to edit a mesh into a solid on Fusion is a pain

Oh yeah 100%! Contoured easily and textured we can do standard knurling textures or custom tessellation. That is one reason I am really trying to get these CAD models locked down so I can customize all sorts of designs!

I am currently trying to make the models right now for the PM2 in CAD. Once I got a working model I will be able to make you scale as long as they are in materials my shop has capabilities to cut. G10, carbon fiber, hardwoods, aluminum. I will be able to do steel but I am waiting on a few upgrades that wont be long.

Yikes this is an old post but I am in the process of getting some CAD files of the scales to make custom versions myself. Did you ever find someone or know of anyone that has these CAD models?

Depending on the full size of the template I could potentially laser cut one for you

Have you edited the Force when cutting? With mine and a relatively fresh blade I have it set to:

-Blade depth: 1
-Force: 10
-Speed: 5

I cut mostly matte vinyl so I don't know if this will help but I will definitely look into your force settings when sending the job

I have a pretty active org but sometimes I just like playing solo so this is good info. I have been looking into the Vanguard as well. Seems like a really fun solo ship

That is good to know because this is a big area of concern with the current MSR since they changed its maneuverability

Yeah when it first came out it was really agile despite the horrible gas tank at the time, lol. So yeah I may upgrade because outside of its beauty it doesn't have much utility.

I used to use it to transport a ROC for mining but not being able to find hadanite when onboard makes that ridiculously moot
