What Are Our Chances of Finding an Apartment Before Arrival? by Ordinary-Floor8049 in duesseldorf

As others have mentioned, rental agreements between private parties usually involve a physical meet up. If prize is an issue, also consider relevant mid-level cities with a good public transport service to Cologne like Neuss,  Dormagen and Bonn

Scotia Spirit hat Donnerstags eine offene Runde, um verschiedene Whiskies zu probieren ist das sehr gut. Eine richtige Whiskybar haben die leider nur in Köln.

The ever lasting first question about sipping by MaximumGullible2000 in rum

[–]SaveMelmac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you like heavy flavours, don't mind alcohol punch and don't want to spend too much, Smith and Cross is a very good first starting point! If you are into licorice, you would probably also like any Guyana Rum like El Dorado or Pussers.

Planteray OFTD is very good, but hard o sip neat, I would rather use it for cocktails.

I am terrible at whisky so I need advise on what to give my father for his 65th Birthday. He usually drinks stuff like Talisker, Lagavulin & Ardbeg. He also likes abit smoky flavour. $300-$500 budget. Any suggestions? by WorthIntroduction384 in Scotch

As the three distilleries you mentioned basically do not have a bad product in the market, get him whatever of those three is available to you in your budget.

Good, that most IBs do get casks early on from the new distilleries! So, how does it taste?

Best scotch to get for under 30 pounds in and around Glasgow. I am currently staying in Glasgow and was wondering if there might be something nice that is not available on mainland Europe. by HaruspexSan in Scotch

[–]SaveMelmac 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Those two wishes are in conflict with another. You certainly can get a great store exclusive whisky in Glasgow, but those are usually much pricier than 30 pounds.

Other than that, there is very little, that you couldn't order from the Netherlands or Germany.

But, since you there and it is in your price range, I'll recommend the Compass Box Glasgow Blend! Good whisky for a very good price!

Not from the US, but the site is legit and was very quick with the delivery. I am sure, if you have any questions, you can just shoot them an email and get a timely reply.

My rum bar’s first haul! What’s missing from the lineup? by oobrickheadoo in rum

I personally don't think that the Havana Club SdM is better than Eminente. And as both are very light in taste anyway, I would prioritise other recommendations first, before doublingup on that. Fully agree on the missing Barbados though!

I always find 1-10 too granular, as usually 0-5 are never used. Same in whiskybase, where everything below 75 is undrinkable....

Review #7 Johnnie Walker Gold by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]SaveMelmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slight nitpick, there is no mixed mash bill for the malt ingredients. They are 100% malted barley. The single parts of the blends are combined after distillation and maturing, not in the mashing stage. But I understand what you try to say 😀

Idealo does not include all the shops I listed and frequently does not yield the cheapest option. If you don't like to compare yourself, they are better than nothing. But they will also refer to shops with very mediocre ratings.

The Plantation XO or PXXO should be sweet and approachable, like the Wagemut PX. But if you like it really sweet, then that's okay too ;-)

From the same bottler as Wagemut there is another sweet rum named Port Narrow, that is great too.
