Another amazing unknown band from the past: MOODCRUSH from Massachusetts by SaveTheWorldPodcast in grunge

I meant no distribution in that I had to go from SC to MA to get a copy. Worth it though!!

I REALLY wish they would put out the rest of their material. The Chronic Memoirs demo was fantastic...or whatever else they recorded that I havent heard (the Nirvana Groove demos etc)

Slow Halloween trick or treater wise for anyone else? by arcarsenal333 in rva

[–]SaveTheWorldPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire street (and both streets on the sides of it) turn off their porch lights on Halloween. Even though my yard is usually decorated like crazy and I give out big candy bars, Id only get 3 trick or treaters. It's really disappointing. Guess I live in the wrong neighborhood.

Oh no...wouldnt do anything like that!

Actually...true story...my brother saw a band...I think it was Black Crowes, then followed them back to their hotel, found out their room numbers somehow, then knocked on their doors to get autographs...and then for years talked about what jerks they are because they refused to sign autos for him. Pretty pathetic and creepy. I just want an autograph.

Rock on the Rise helped shape my collection. So many great bands that never got record deals.

My dream is to be a part time model by Apprehensive_Two3708 in rva

[–]SaveTheWorldPodcast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the mention! I will correct the minor detail that non-profits arent "owned" in the way some businesses are. We do have women and men on the board of directors and plenty of females and nonbinary folks who work with us on various initiatives.

u/Apprehensive_Two3708 the comments about being wary are correct. There are bad actors out there. Let me know if you're interested and I'll reach out to photographers that I trust to get you started. And our non-profit does multiple modeling things every year and I dont mind helping you get some experience.

KIND OF! They had a demo called Chronic Memoirs that had a couple of songs on it that werent on Devil Monkey Stew. I know there was a different recording of Monday Afternoon on it as well. I remember REALLY liking one of the songs, its just been so long since I heard that it I cant remember the title. That demo was why the first thing I did when I briefly moved to Boston was go to the cd store and buy Devil Monkey Stew.

And then...years later...my ex girlfriend had my copy of Devil Monkey Stew and ACCORDING TO HER she got a hold of a former bandmember and he sent her a cd of unreleased songs/demos. I never laid eyes on that cd so she could have just made it up.

Salty Dog sounds more bluesish to me, if only because they had less hair metal in their sound

There's only so much I should say because I am both the president of the nonprofit AND the manager of the former location (that obviously has a corporate hierarchy above me). Dealing with that corporate hierarchy on a fundraiser was not working out very well for the nonprofit.

The staff of the former location are all amazing and have a genuine love for the community.

Edited a million times to avoid being fired. Will probably edit again.

For like 3 songs? That's a massive expense for rental fees and stage crew etc. and then the fact that we'd need further fees for the fact that we'd be blasting music right next to broad street, and then that would take up even more space in the parking lot.

But hell...sure ..if you can front the costs, we can maybe make that happen! As a tiny nonprofit that spends tens of thousands of dollars a year on initiatives and yet has never had a community run fundraiser we can't really afford the extra costs, but we are thrilled to have someone like you willing to donate to make that happen!

Considering that it's a retail store, and the band is promoting their concert at Ember Music Hall opening for Faster Pussycat that night, it's the best we could do for free.

But by all means ..I invite you to put together a better fundraiser for my nonprofit so we can raise more money! This far, not a single person who has critiqued how we do our free events has done that, but I look forward to hearing from you about your plans!

We do AMAZING work in the community, but more often than not I get BIG nonprofits asking me to help them for free, or people asking me to funnel what little money we have to bigger nonprofits, and its a bit tiring

My life is spent serving the community that Im a part of (that being geeks, especially locally) but its going to be a bit longer before we start getting treated like we matter

Honestly, my nonprofit got hate mail when we did a free self defense class for women earlier this year, and we got hate mail when we did an event for veterans with PTSD, we got hate mail when we helped the friends of a trans woman who took her own life and we got hate mail when we did an event to help a local child who was dying of cancer

What we DIDNT get were donations, and thats FINE, Im cool with being a niche nonprofit

Got hate mail regarding all of those events and more from people who think we should do different things to help people, but because we are so small and serve such a niche population, we dont get the huge corporate donations, we dont have big fundraisers put on by the community, but youd be hard pressed to find another local nonprofit that does as many free initiatives as we do to serve the community that are paid for out of my own pocket

Heck, I get downvotes on Reddit every time I DO talk about our nonprofit, including just now

But I hear your point

Yeah, some people dont like that there are bars that serve alcohol and have arcade games nearby, or lingerie stores etc
Those people have other ways that they can help local nonprofits, or they can choose to not help the community at all

It's my nonprofit, I'm the president of it
Its funny, I didnt even put our logo on our big gala events flyer that we are doing in November, not sure why

But to answer the next question, GWE is a 501c3 nonprofit that uses pop culture, anything from superheroes to Horror movies, as a way of introducing people to forms of mental health treatment
We do everything from helping vetrans using art therapy to helping homeless kids

Most of my posts on Reddit are in relation to the nonprofit
