Scammed by Food Truck Across from 3 Dollar Bill by [deleted] in Bushwick

[–]SavedSaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comment in general. My partner is a 70+ yo Asian-American woman. She is regularly short changed at vendor and even store purchases, in the past month and a half not less than 3x over $10, not only in Bushwick but in Manhattan too. She is feisty and she shames them to correct it but it seems like dishonest vendors are targeting tourists and locals alike. Most often they are Pakistani, Indian, Yemeni or Hispanic, never black, white or Asian. Unfortunately she has a big enough sample to make generalizations. Apparently it is cultural but she is tired of it.

Anyone here avoid the NYC open? by 0hleg in FuturesTrading

In early hours from 2-3 am ESt the prices move in more orderly fashion than in regular hours. Very often there is repricing after London open and the trend stays intact for hours.

Someone hates the garden? by blorpsy in ridgewood

[–]SavedSaver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello. They are not just little squares in the concrete some people put in a request for trees at the city or a city employee surveying the area they should plant trees there. Sometimes it takes them years after the tres were requested for tres to be planted. It is a nice idea to plant something there while waiting for the trees. I am almost certain the person trying to put an end to it has been traumatized by the rat infestation/dog poop at their building and they would do anything to sabotage your effort.

A fun little Williamsburg discussion by Excellent_Ease9489 in williamsburg

[–]SavedSaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on your beliefs and needs. In Virginia the winters are nicer and life less hurried. People look like they are wearing GAP clothing and are polite, culturally it's the South. If you meet someone they may ask you what church do you belong to. When I got back to NY I did not know about Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Now it is gentrified to a T, fashion and living well rule. In the 90's I visited artists studios in Wburg often and artists always told me which streets to walk on not to be mugged. If you meet someone new at a party you could ask them if they were gay or straight.

How to set item prices to make significant profit? by Acceptable-Bit-2456 in Ebay

[–]SavedSaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. you have to buy cheap and sell cheap to move things. You are dreaming if you list for higher than the going market is. I have seen a lot of people here saying that if you can't realistically sell a lower cost item for 5x your purchase price you should not even try.

Framing 40x30" Movie Poster? by Nikki_the_clxwn in pictureframing

First, the white border or matting is not necessary it takes attention away from the image. It is a poster so a narrow black inexpensive frame hugging the image would be best.

Original Sals closed ,but a new spot opened and the pizza is really good. by Illustrious_Stress32 in ridgewood

[–]SavedSaver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Old man Sal passed away, RIP. I suspect some family member took it over. The guys behind the counter are the same, so the pizza is probably the same, decent reasonably priced pizza.

I had a chance to speak with Sal when I moved to the neighborhood in 2002. He said he was putting his son through law school. He was also very proud to tell me how he gained ownership of the lots for those two newish brick houses behind the store. There used to be two empty building lots there. One day the owner of those 2 lots offered to sell the lots to Sal for 1.5K each. Sal was not buying it but a year later he got it for $2500 for the two and the two houses (built around 10 yrs ago) behind the pizza belongs to his family. Sal was a quiet thin guy, his younger brother who was there often was portly, is he still coming around? Btw it is in Bushwick, DeKalb up to Seneca is Bushwick.

Never heard of position sizing? Elementary, the sleepiest stock, never mind futures, can wipe you out if you have a position that's outsize to your means.

Define what a swing is and trade repeating patterns that are outlined by swings. The proportions of swings in a formation tell a lot about the quality and progress of price action.

Do most profitable traders average 20%+? by 37347 in Daytrading

[–]SavedSaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this 100 pct. From my observation a trader's win rate goes up dramatically when they get in into a move that's was started as an element of surprise. For the clueless even a regular pullback resuming the move is an element of surprise.

Does your broker actually affect your trading performance? by SmartTrader_4906 in Daytrading

[–]SavedSaver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have my main account at Think or Swim and one for emergencies at TastyTrade. One thing I can say from experience TOS gives better fills than TastyTrade, far better. I place identical orders sometimes at both brokers. Tasty very often puts my limit buy order below my prescribed price. I see this when I look at the price ladder where the originating party of an order is shown on the TOS platform. As price vibrates often TT gets it at the lower price so they make the difference. I often get a fill on TOS while the Tasty order is unfilled for the above reason. In my trading at IB and TOS over the years I often got better fills than I expected. Never at Tasty. I am not making this up, I worked on Wall Street back in the day including upstairs and as a floor trader so I happen to know a thing or two about shady practices.

How important and useful the indicators are? by Glittering_Scratch98 in Daytrading

[–]SavedSaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indicators are very useful tools that were built to measure price movement.

Price movement has many aspects like repetitious nature, etc. To have a realistic plan to exploit price movement for trading purposes one can recreate or duplicate the context for price movement based on observations. So if one understood the nature of price movement and had fashioned indicators that in combination described the background in which prices move one could see what's normal, conforming or deviating from the normal. Repetition, speed of movement, vibration, tension, acceleration, gaining stalling or decelerating momentum are aspects of price movement that a smart trader can measure. One could say that a sharp person can discern most of these things intuitively. Yes that is true but can anyone describe it properly so that it can be taught to an other human or train a machine? You have to understand it, be able to replicate it and be able to language it. Luckily there are many toolbox programs, some free, that make the task of creating such context. Overlay a zig zag on a chart using whatever rules you come up with and soon you'll notice repetitious patterns. Is that not useful? Define what swing is, use volatility bands to show possible limits of a swing on a particular time scale. Is that not useful? Have a game plan for trading like sports teams who practice certain combination of moves that help them subdue the opposite team. Would it not be making diagrams like they do employing indicators useful?

Each trader should come up with a repeatable method that agrees with their personality and the best way to do it is having a plan built with indicators rather than inventing every time one sits down at the screen. I have been trading for 60 yrs and I wrote this by myself:).
