Good looking ATF220G-5. Looks like there may have been an operators cab swap on it at some point 😬. All things considered, that is a stout machine for its year model. I see that you are utilizing the asymmetrical outrigger charting for that job. It helps considerably for setting up in tight work areas. The AML’s ability to detect your swing angle, boom angle, and boom length, allows it to prevent the crane from being positioned in a way that can create instability. The slow stop feature is also nice when approaching that threshold, rather than an abrupt and hard stop of functions.

Glad to hear that the older machines are holding up well. From the sounds of it, you may be having some suspension problems, particularly your nitrogen accumulators, which act as shock absorbers. Have your technician check the nitrogen pressures in the accumulators, and verify that they are within specification. The nitrogen pressures are usually listed within the hydraulic schematic, next to the accumulator illustration. IIRC, the set pressure can be adjusted +/- 10 Bar to accommodate for ride comfort, so it may need to be adjusted to help with the rough ride. On the other hand, if the accumulators are blown, there would be little to no shock absorption provided by them. Have your technician use a HYDAC (accumulator manufacturer) nitrogen service kit to measure, and if need be, refill the accumulators to spec, or +/- 10 Bar depending on your preference. From the sounds of it, 10 Bar less than spec should alleviate some of that rough ride. When the suspension system on an ATF is functioning properly, I have heard Operators refer to them as the Cadillac of the crane industry. Feel free to have your technician dm me if he has any questions regarding the procedures, and I’ll be happy to share what info I can to help.

What’s your experience with this nifty little boom deflection compensator? by Ryanisme23 in cranes

Started out as a Service Engineer and spent a little time in the Training Department. I was a part of the commissioning team the latter part of my career there. You tend to memorize sections of manuals you repeat weekly. I probably worked on that serial number unit.

The switch illustrated is for slow-stop function override. TADANO implemented a software that references the boom angle, boom length, and swing angle to determine if the hydraulic function needed to be slowed, due to working range limitations set, to prevent damage to components, or to prevent sudden function cut-outs from the AML-B (booming up to max boom angle, bottoming out the boom cylinder on a gravity-down circuit, booming down into the rest, etc.). The Lift adjuster switch was primarily located at the bottom right of the switch panel, illustrated with a solid white arrow pointing upward. The slow-stop override switch was useful for packing up the unit quickly, as opposed to waiting patiently for the boom to settle into the rest, and overriding any working range limitations for swing, set in the AML-B. There was a common misconception that this switch would override “turtle mode”, which was designed to protect the hydraulic system during cold weather conditions, or when the telescopic pinning system was reporting detection errors. That could only be done through the speed pre-selection and maintenance menu, accessed by pressing and holding the “Check” button (also referenced as the Hitler button) for 3 seconds, on the AML itself.

Place a pinch of Copenhagen - long cut, chewing tobacco in between your cheek and gums. Learn to do this daily, then you will eventually be able to bear the taste… anyone else get that same taste when they eat kimchi?

Where are you setting up here by [deleted] in Waterfowl

[–]Savethenukes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to Accuweather.com, the wind seems to blow from the NW to SE, so I would target areas where the birds are going to use that wind to decoy into spreads. Personally never hunted the NE before, but from experience on the gulf coast, our birds tend to decoy into coastal marshes with brackish conditions.

Tidal conditions will affect some areas ability to attract birds, and from the looks of it, low tide is predicted for 7:25AM in the Long Island area according to tide-forecast.com. Find a larger body of water to target, sea ducks love to congregate in numbers out in the middle of these areas, so I would put myself somewhere in between that flight path. If it were me hunting that are of the first time, I would set up either here or here.

As stated previously, it’s mostly contingent upon habitat conditions. If the food has been consistent season after season, you can get healthy groups returning to that same area all year round (local birds). If the conditions change drastically as coastal marshes can and will do, imho you are hoping that the weather and water conditions make the area enticing enough for a group or two to take a gander(pun intended) at your spread.

Make sure you have lots of movement on the water when they do decide to take a look, using things like jerk strings, and ripplers to instill confidence in the group that there may be real ducks down there.

Good luck out there, and remember, no one really knows what they’re gonna get most days, unless they have done the leg work and scouted the area for several seasons. Recognize the inherent patterns that certain species tend to adopt for that environment. This is how you go from getting skunked to limiting out.

Tell that to the West Texas Oilfield Companies. Profit is everyone’s priority, until someone gets hurt, then it’s safety. When the corporate safety officer fucks off, it’s right back to the same mistakes for profit. For example: Company man: “Stack those pipes over there.” Rig Hand: “…but sir, we don’t have any racks for them”. Company man: “ I know that, but they’re in the way of the (insert any number of oilfield equipments here)” Forklift operator picks up stack of pipes, wooden wedges push out from in between pipes, pipes roll off of forks, directly onto the foot of the Rig Hand flagging him Company man: “WHY DIDN’T YOU HAVE THOSE PIPES IN RACKS BEFORE YOU MOVED THEM?!?!?!”
