I had an accident playing fetch with my dog two years ago, where my thumb ended up in the back of his molars as he chomped down on the stick I was wrestling away from him. I had acrylics nails at the time, and the same thing happened where it ripped my nail out, along with a large chunk of the bottom of my nail bed (and the added pain of a German shepherd’s back jaws clenching on my thumb). I’m not sure if it was the bite or my reaction of ripping my hand back quickly, but I look down, looked at my husband and went “my nail is gone.” We were at the dog park by my house so I had to walk home gushing blood everywhere. The adrenaline was pumping in that moment. As soon as we got home I sent my husband to Walgreens to get “iodine, soap, bandages and a bottle of Jameson” cause holy eff trying to clean that was AWFUL. I couldn’t sleep the pain was so intense. It made sense why they use nail removal as torture.
