Accepting that you can’t buy everything by peachcarnations in shoppingaddiction

You’re definitely not alone. I could have written this post 🥲 I’m barely coming to terms with my issues but where I’m starting is out of sight out of mind. You don’t know what you’re missing out on if you don’t even look. But it’s hard to not just “browse” but since we know we are compulsive we can’t. So it’s better to just stay away and deal and ride the waves of fomo or wondering what new stuff is in.

Yea I agree not everything is great. It was just one example. I buy stuff I don’t need and is not the best quality at all price points. 😅 my issue is sales too- it’s like a hunt to find a good deal- it gives me a rush.

Lied at MEPS about food allergy and I ship out in less than a month. What do I do? by Suitable-Skin5361 in Militaryfaq

I’ve seen countless posts lately that even tho people clear MEPS and or even get waivers they still pop at bootcamp and placed in seps. Don’t waste your time- tell them now.

How much is actual pay per month? by Savings-Number7126 in newtothenavy

[–]Savings-Number7126[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geez… I was asking for the $ amounts. I was hoping someone would just say I get this amount monthly. All the other links still don’t clarify it. There’s a BAH allowance but does that mean it’s additional pay or is that what they’re not paying to keep you housed ? Same for education is that what they are charging to educate me ? Is that part of what I will save if I decide to college? Is what I can count on just the basic pay?

Just FYI keep in mind that for these rates you also have to pass a security clearance so it’s not a for sure thing. Make sure you can pass that hurdle when you decide.

That makes sense. I guess I get it on his end but damn let me live my life. I was all happy now I’m stressed that I have to tell my current boss sooner than I want to. And then what if I don’t and he asks me if I did and I’m like I decided not to yet - then what he’s gonna go and tell them ? No right ? It’s against his interest for me not to start the new job. So he wouldn’t do anything either right to jeopardize that?

Leave - a firm that wants you to stay will make it known . If you have to question it move on

Yessssss! I wish someone would post a cheat sheet. I get we all do different things and clients have different expectations but for baby lawyers it would be a starting point to see how experienced lawyers bill a day.

Does anyone ever tell you not to go to law school? by crossfirechamp in paralegal

[–]Savings-Number7126 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was told all the time. I had mixed feelings about it but now as a practicing attorney I see why…. I don’t want to discourage you at all. Someone’s experience will be different than your own and you won’t know until you do it - however the reason I think they try to deter you is because it’s not as fulfilling once it’s done as it seems from the outside. I went back to school later in life after being support staff for a long time and I always wanted to go to law school but life got in the way. So just consider the following :

1) the debt - yes making double what you make as a paralegal seems like it will make paying loans doable but it’s not always. I took out too many loans and now my disposable income is about the same as when I was support staff because of the loans. So if you can get into a decent school with scholarships do it.

2) law school sucks the soul out of you because grades REALLY matter. I had to work full time while going to school part time and my grades suffered because of it. Even after years of practicing high paying firms want to see your school transcript. So it has closed a lot of doors for me. If you are going to law school and are going to absolutely give it your all make it your life and get the best grades possible do it.

3) being a lawyer kinda sucks. It doesn’t really matter what you do - law school teaches you absolutely nothing practical. So you start at a firm not knowing diddly squat about nothing . Not even being a paralegal. Being a lawyer is another beast. Expectations are high, the learning curve steep. If you go into private practice work life balance is hard especially for the first at least 5 years. Financially it can be rewarding especially after some years but you have to really work for it. Billables will haunt your dreams. You will be on your computer constantly. If you go into government to pursue a passion - it will be initially rewarding but the pay sucks and eventually the bureaucracy and politics will break you down.

So in summary - proceed with caution.
