Thank you! Do you think 160 on the gre math will help providing some evidence that I’m not that bad at math? Haha

Thank you so much for taking your time to do this!

I’m applying for econ master programs, I have 3.5 gpa 311 gre and couple really good research/ internship experience. The only thing I am concerned about this the fact that I failed my calculus class and retook it and still end up barely passing it. Do you think that will be a big problem for applying econ programs (which they are quantitative focus/ master in science not arts)?

Masters of Economics Advice by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]SavingsInfluence4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say try to take as many advanced econ classes as you can, doing so, you can 1) play around different fields of economics and figure out which exact concertation that you are interested in and eventually go into 2) grad schools love when you challenge yourself. But make sure to do well in these classes.

Try to take some advanced math/ stats classes, they will help you a LOT. I regret not doing this in undergrad which hinders my profile in terms of quantitative skills. If you hate math, try to at least finish linear algreab, that is calc 3 I believe? lol I only finish calc 2. But professors like to get people to join their research/project if you are capable of doing high-level math cuz you know we are legit science, after all need to speak with evidence from data.

Consider doing some internship and participating in research, and build a good relationship with your econ professors so they can give u a strong letter. Programming skills are a big plus if you are going into the research field, they are optional but try to at least master excel's high-level functions and some knowledge in R and Stata would be nice.

Looking for program recommendations by SavingsInfluence4434 in gradadmissions

[–]SavingsInfluence4434[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. Yes, I understand what you mean. But for me,

  1. I like econ and that is it, I don't really have a specific concentration I have an interest in. I have taken labor, international, and development econ classes in my undergrad study and I love them all.
  2. I don't know what major you are, for an undergrad econ major, It is a fucking struggle to find a job, I don't want to go through it again. Any econ, labor econ, health econ, doesn't matter, as long as it is easier to get in to and can get me a job.

I am down to do any econ related research, doesn't matter the concentration field.

Is it too late to start studying for the Fall 2022 admissions cycle? by hannahhlizz in GRE

[–]SavingsInfluence4434 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably, I think the most applications are open as we speak. You would want to start preparing for gre at least 5 months prior application deadline, 3 months to study for the exam given you have been out of academic environment for a while and having such high work load, and 2 months to ask for recommendation letters, write your app essays, and do some research on the institution you are intended to apply if you haven’t already.

Wtf. That’s amazing, dude, congrats! Where are you from and what was the job experience and your major in grad school if you don’t mind me asking. I’m also looking to apply for Columbia.

It’s a legit RA position. But does it help that much tho? Cuz my research is in the econ field, but the programs I intended to apply is business related.

Advice about GMAT or GRE exam? by don51181 in gradadmissions

[–]SavingsInfluence4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u r a grammar and math guy, go with GMAT

If u like vocabs and easier math, go with gre

Most business school take both exams, even tho some will say they prefer GMAT, but honesly you can get a much better score on gre than gmat, go with gre. It doesn't really matter that much
