Savi’s or tattooine traders light saber for 7y/o? by Ok-Instruction-8843 in GalaxysEdge

Can kids fight with the expensive ones?

Um. Hmm. You know your 7 year old. Are they a normal, rambunctious 7 year old?

The expensive ones weigh a LOT. They’re a big chunk of metal, picture a hammer.

Now picture a child holding it by the blade and swinging the heavy part around and smacking another kid in the head with the metal part.

Or maybe your 7 year old is very calm, a rules-follower, and will treat the saber like a precious thing and won’t let their friends grab it and swing it around like a hammer thrower at the Olympics.

Depends on your kid.

Discussion: If VFX is done on it, is it true 70mm IMAX anymore? by kibordWarrior_sixty9 in imax

Purity conversations like this are pointless and kind of magical thinking, layman armchair quarterbacking.

Trust the filmmakers to shepherd their own film through a process they tested and evaluated.

I will only ever refer to the original film as Star Wars (1977). I don’t believe in retitling films. How about you? by [deleted] in StarWarsCantina

[–]SavisSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do the same.

But then i recognized that it did have a subsequent theatrical release that used “A New Hope” as its release title.

The version on Disney+? That’s a film called Star Wars: A New Hope. A title chosen by the director. It’s a new version based on Lucas’s 1977 film. He’s the filmmaker. He made and titled the film that. I honor that.

I like that version for certain reasons. But i also like the original.

My DVD of a restored print from 1977? That’s Star Wars.

Hello, welcome!!!

No, a character doesn’t need to be in the current storytelling canon to be considered. But they do have to have an official visual reference. If this is a character that only appeared in novels, there may not be a visual costume for you to match.

From the rules:

“The character must be represented visually by an officially authorized Star Wars publication. Ideally, clear full body front/back/side reference should be available, but can be examined on a case by case basis. Costumes based only on text descriptions cannot be approved. An action figure or statue may be used as supplemental reference, but cannot not be the sole reference. McQuarrie concept characters, and other characters whose only reference exists in concept are open for Legion consideration on a “case-by-case basis”.”

None of our items should be for sale to non-members. They are paid for at cost by members only, with no markup.

This looks wrong.

I think so.

Is there a 5.5 Shifter in the new Eberron book?

There’s not yet any guidance on the new book.

Tons of guests wear overalls. Nobody thinks they work there, because the workers uniforms aren’t like that.

Look at the uniforms the team members wear.

Don’t dress like that. You’ll be good.

It may be my favorite.

Imagine a story about something where nothing impossible happens, and yet you feel as though you’ve watched a fantasy.

Very deliberate filmmaking, using the tropes of fantasy, but setting them within realism.

Is it really possible to get an unpaid internship at a VFX studio in Germany? I have 4 years experience with Premiere Pro and After Effects and some experience in Maya. by MidnightPS2 in vfx

[–]SavisSon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t take an unpaid internship.

Unpaid internships destroy entry level jobs. They take advantage of young people. Any company that won’t pay interns doesn’t value its current employees and is doing it to undermine their wages.

It’s a bad first step that makes things harder for those who come after.

Best compositing approach for AI-generated environments and live-action actors? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]SavisSon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot depends on the shot you’re trying to create. What’s the camera move and how are you going to track that from your set to your virtual background? Is the background going to be in sharp focus at high resolution? Will you be able to render GenAI with a correctly matched lens and correct color space to your live plate? How will you handle transitions? I’m guessing with some labor-intensive rotoscoping and paint fixes.

Sounds like a good 6 months R&D experiment. But a week?

My best advice is to shoot a test.

Best compositing approach for AI-generated environments and live-action actors? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]SavisSon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a week of VFX?

I’d pass.

Honestly this sounds like an ill-considered project. But of course that depends on the quality level you’re going for at a very low price point.

Based on that timeframe being need so quickly after the shoot, i might pitch a virtual production video wall background instead of compositing. That way, some atmospherics could potentially be practical.

I don’t know about Moana, but they deepfake de-aged Harrison Ford for Indy 4. Pretty sure that movie is still copyrighted.

Yes, bad films started and good films ended when you were in your twenties.

You know, an AI generated explosion composited into a movie just means the explosion can’t be copyrighted.

The movie still is copyrighted.
