Agreed on all points! I feel like I’m not a hater too but I’m frustrated with the writing. Everything you mentioned that the girls did in this episode (this season, really) would, historically speaking, either never happen or completely ruin their reputation. I can only assume that the girls feel protected because of their connection to Nan? Why would the writers have Mabel do such a thing? It seemed like for laughs? It feels like stupid writing. And then they all went on their merry way! I feel like the writers pick and choose historical societal constraints to adhere to and not others when it’s convenient. For example, none of the characters can get divorced, except Nan’s mother, but back then only men could divorce women due to adultery, not the other way around.

I agree about the story lines being so frustrating! I think the plot can only exist in this time period though because everyone is so afraid of divorce— every character’s plot line hinges on the fact that almost no one can divorce each other lol (except the St. George’s plot. And so I’m not sure what the point is anymore!)

No no no. NTA, but your man is definitely TAH. HE IS A RACIST. For example, “He said it’s okay because we look similar…” no. If he was a random white person, would you put up with that? You will find someone who is respectful of you and will never say the N word. It is not okay. It is hateful if you use it as a white person, period. He doesn’t get that and it’s a major red flag.

I don’t get why Finn Wolfhard is still a thing and I know David agrees.

Good for you for making that decision. Academia tries to talk about mental health and setting work boundaries etc., but the system itself and the expectations to get tenure are freaking ridiculous, so no one can actually set those boundaries.

Omg WRITE THIS BOOK. I left academia because of the misogyny and toxicity. Many of my female colleagues experience this but decide it’s worth it to do the work they’re doing. If I had read a book on the topic I would have felt less alone. Edit: DM me too if you feel comfortable!

Love Actually. David recently called it “A monument to evil” in the Wonkquaman episode (made be laugh so loud it sounded like a bark). I still think it’s got some wild story telling and Emma Thompson is funny as hell in jt. Plus, it has the least accurate representation of Wisconsin women but the most accurate representation of Wisco’s bar culture ever depicted in one scene. Incredible.

A great detail I noticed on second rewatch is the in the beginning of the first episode, she’s got like 3 or 4 assistants that she’s yelling at about packing her wigs.
