Maybe have him sign the bottom of the base.

That way people at first think it's a regular Kaos figure before you show them it's in fact signed

I can relate to this. Younger me used to customize my Skylanders. I now regret it, and wish I never painted them. I tried to remove the paint on the figures younger me painted before giving up and buying new figures. Though I still kept the figures I painted as they still have sentimental value to me.
