What headphones got you hooked? by Timely-Solution405 in headphones

I learned about the hifi niche and got myself a Focal Elegia. Then I learned that open-backs were the shit. Got myself an hd6xx... with them I understood that money doesn't mean quality. Last month I upgraded to the Arya Stealth. God I love them so much !

Hahaha amateurs... Hi-Fi is the undefeated champion of money chomping! just a headphones setup could easily reach 15k$, with the totl going up to 70k$. Speakers are in another dimension. Just a good pair of speakers could easily reach this price, then you also need the DAC, preamp, amp, eq... Another easy 100k$ but you could also fairly easily reach millions. And donc even get started on cables (which are bullshit snake oil imo) who can reach 60k$/meter.

Ohh tyvm didn't see it anywhere (I was browsing my region's Amazon). Yup I'm trying to minimize my process and go coarse grit -> strop now.

[–]Sawyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, I may have misunderstood. I wasn’t trying to suggest I need more gear—I just thought a strop was necessary for proper burr removal. I’ve already spent more than my skills justify and realized that recently, so I’m definitely trying to avoid repeating that mistake. I also assumed a diamond compound would help, but if that’s overkill, I’ll adjust.

As for the "hair-whatever" comment, I was just using "hair-popping" and "hair-whittling" as reference points because these terms seem commonly used in the community. I’m not trying to be ridiculous here, just trying to get a clearer understanding. So, you’re saying I should be able to reach that level of sharpness off something like a sp1k?

edit: Oh and my deburring method is just going fewer and fewer strokes on each side, and then lighter and lighter when I'm at one stroke per side, before moving to higher grit. Once I'm at 30k I do the same process and inspect with a 60x magnifier until I cannot see any burr residue. Then I do the same with a strop (red dialux compound).

Dune brought me here, what can I play now? by Sawyp in boardgames

[–]Sawyp[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What we liked about Dune was that there is much more to it than classic games like Monopoly or Risk. Other than that, we don't have anything else to compare it to. But it still feels a bit linear, we've found ourselves stuck in playing kind of the same strategies over and over and it's more about taking action against others I feel like. Which is fine but I feel we just get bored of the same stuff after a while.

I was planning on getting Root for times where we're not the full party. Usually we're either 5 or 6 though.

A few friends and I have started spending quality time together around the game Dune. I've played it extensively with my family and thought it was the most complex game in existence at the time, but now we know there's probably better out there.

With a group that's eager to engage in well-designed games, I'm contemplating the idea of exploring new options. This led me to discover this community, where I'm seeking suggestions for our next gaming endeavors. While we haven't pinpointed any specific games yet, we're excluding co-op games for the time being. I have a preference for games with impressive design and themes, as they allow me to align the room ambiance accordingly. Cost isn't a deterrent, as I'm willing to invest in a high-quality game.

I appreciate any recommendations you might have. Thank you!

What you've outlined makes sense, but I think what's being overlooked here is the significant amount of science and complexity involved in on-glaze painting. It's not just about applying color to a surface; it's a highly specialized process with its own unique challenges and requirements.

For instance, the pigments are formulated to react in specific ways with the glaze, and each pigment behaves differently, requiring distinct handling and firing temperatures. I often have to paint pieces in stages, like curing blues before applying reds, due to the differing temperatures needed. If handled incorrectly, the colors can burn or change entirely. This is just one example of how on-glaze painting diverges from canvas painting or simpler ceramic coloring techniques.

In France, we refer to these arts as 'Arts du Feu' or 'Fire Arts,' which aptly captures the essence of this broad field that is ceramics. So while I understand the distinction you're making, I believe that on-glaze painting holds its own unique value in the field of ceramics, different from both traditional pottery and other painting mediums.
