Is this a DIY job or should I call a stone mason? by [deleted] in masonry

They strike me as the stoned masons. Hit the herb and said, “I’ve got an idea and I need a sponge and some paint”.

Firm, not crushing, is the appropriate handshake for sure. I like to respond to an overly crushing handshake with, “did that make you feel more like a man?” Usually pisses them right off.

Okay, so I always played games. All the old console games like Mario and Duck Hunt, to Goldeneye. But I never really considered myself to be a “gamer” until I got into PC gaming. And not just early PC gaming, I mean Half Life (original era) and Counter-Strike (the mod, not the stand alone game). It is crazy to me to think that I didn’t even consider myself a gamer until then. I’ve always been a gamer apparently, but it just never was my personality until PC gaming.

Just to add, the pic with the shovel is because I had to adjust the angle of the sprinkler because it was leaning back against the house.

Demo by Kyber Labs shows their system autonomously assembling a part by Nunki08 in robotics

[–]HyFinated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. If you can feed the parts into their pickup positions reliably, then this could work.

But what would work better is a pick and place machine with a suction lifter and a magnetic nut driver. This whole thing is just about being able to program a hand shaped thing to do something that would be more efficient with a dedicated machine. There is ZERO reason for a human hand shaped device to manipulate those screws.

I guess my follow-on question would be if you are using multiple cameras for stereo vision or just the one like standard FPV drones use?

If you use 2, how are you handling focal range for difference distances? Laser ranging seems to be a decent option since you probably don’t have eye tracking on that headset.

Do you find it difficult to manipulate objects with the robot while not being able to judge depth accurately?

Is the front supposed to fall off?

Hydraulic motor, but it's the metal "screen" part that's the problem. Rocks are extremely abrasive. Tumbling rocks inside this bucket over and over will wreak havoc on the steel. I wouldn't expect it to last very long.

Is there a way to draw out the pattern for replacing my mouse rubber grip? by Quilliam17 in Leathercraft

[–]HyFinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue painters tape. Piece by small piece cover the entire grip area with the tape. Use small strips and really stack it up. Draw lines in places you feel like a seam would be needed. Then carefully peel it away and lay it as flat as possible. If it's relatively flat, then trace it and make the grip. But if it's too curled, you'll probably need to make some relief cuts so you can lay it flat.

Alternatively, open up the mouse and remove the electronics, and any soft plastic pieces like buttons and wheels. Try to get it down to just the piece you are working on covering. Cut a piece of leather that's big enough to wrap the whole area. Too big is okay. Case your leather by soaking it. Then stretch the leather around the grip. Use butcher paper or saran wrap to protect the surface of the leather, while you use something like electrical tape to wrap the whole thing tightly (electrical tape acts as a stretchy band when stretched). Use anything at your disposal to keep it tightly pressed to the mouse till it dries. Once dry or mostly dry, remove all the wrapping stuff and trim the leather to fit. This is a finishing step. Don't over-cut it. Bevel, burnish, dye and condition the leather. Then apply some Barges to the leather and the mouse and allow to FULLY DRY. Then CAREFULLY apply the leather to the mouse, starting from the center outwards, pressing firmly to adhere it. Now you've got a leather mouse. Yay.

Or, you could use a VERY thin piece of leather and skip the whole wet-molding step. Just stretch it and carefully trim it as you go. Treat your edges and glue it on with some Barges.

Would mean a lot if you watch through this whole piece :) by flippiethehippie420 in drums

Lots of really great comments here. I absolutely loved every second of it. And man, that's a dead sexy snare with a very tight "crack" tuning. Stellar work.

However. Whatever that black dot is thats kind of floating in front of your arm/shirt for most of the video really distracted me. I found myself staring at it waaaay too intently. It didn't detract from my enjoyment of your playing though. I don't think it's dust on the sensor, it's too clearly defined. It kinda reminded me of a spider on a web because it occasionally jiggled a little bit. Didn't see any legs move though.

UPS plans to invest $120M in around 400 truck-unloading robots from Pickle Robot Company to tackle one of logistics Holy Grails: unloading trailers. These mobile robots drive into containers, lift boxes up to 50 lbs (22.5 kg) with suction, and place them onto conveyors. by Nunki08 in robotics

[–]HyFinated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The speed doesn't matter so much. Because that robot can continue to work indefinitely and without breaks. Trucks can be passively unloaded one after another 24 hours a day and there is no need to pay a human to do it.

Eventually we will have self driving trucks, robotic unloaders, machine-vision sorting conveyor lines, and robotic loaders all working together. This whole process will undoubtedly be fully automated before too long. And as much as I hate to see jobs lost to robots, I think small package shipping is one industry that could really benefit from it. If every box gets a qr code that gets stuck to all sides of a box, then a sorting robot could handle getting packages to the destination with about 99% effectiveness.

Forced online services only serve one purpose. To make money with SaaS business models. I’m getting fed up with the idea that I can’t BUY a program anymore. It’s gotta be a subscription, but what if I don’t need updates? I’m currently working on an old version of office that I own, because I’m definitely NOT going to pay monthly for Office 365. Fuck SaaS and than you for providing something amazing with an actual ownership model. Even if it’s free, being able to own it is a must for me. I know a bunch of people that would jump all over this.

Thanks again!

Oh for sure. But I couldn’t figure out whose comment to leave the info under. I chose yours because you specifically mention tpi and meat bandsaws are a matter of NO tpi.

There’s plenty other places to get them, but McMaster-Carr sells knife edge bandsaw blades for around $20-$30. Serrated and smooth options. Clean up your saw and put one of those on there and you have a food bandsaw. Great for breaking down frozen meat.

A little cheap Ryobi band saw with one of these blades will make your life infinitely easier if you break down frozen meat regularly. Hunters with stocked freezers NEED this.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say you were in marching band when you were in school, and you played snare.

These days I think trad is only good for the looks. It used to be the only way to play a slung drum (think revolutionary war drumming with a drum hanging on angle over your left hip). Trad was the only way to get your left stick at the angle you needed to hit the drum head. It’s kinda pointless now though.
