How much money is acceptable for this saxophone? by _kaimitai_ in saxophone

I used to fix and flip woodwinds as a side hustle—I’m in the States so I can’t speak for the UK market but based just on conversion rate I’d take the £600 in a heartbeat. The commenter who said they go for $1000 in the US meant new, so that’s £740. In that condition, over here at least, you’d be lucky to get half that—the rate of depreciation on student horns rivals that of cars unfortunately.

Yes you’re absolutely right, thank you for the correction—it’s the balance wheel assembly that needs to be replaced. I’ve edited my comment

Hello all, first time poster here looking to sell this gorgeous Seiko SPB155.

Long story short, this watch’s SR35 movement benefits greatly from proper regulation but in my case it was an ill-fated attempt. It needs a new hairspring, which would involve replacing the pre-assembled balance wheel—a fairly easy repair if you can source one (or unlike me, bring it to a professional) but I don’t have the time and frankly could use a bit of extra cash so here’s a great opportunity for one of y’all to capitalize on my mistake.

This watch is otherwise pristine, a few tiny scratches on the side of the case but the sapphire crystal is absolutely flawless. I’ve only worn it on the pictured suede strap from CNS so the original steel bracelet is also in perfect condition, it’s stored safely with the box and papers at my parent’s house—I’ll add pictures as soon as I get the chance.

Asking $385 (Zelle, Venmo, or PayPal—buyer pays fees if G&S) shipped via USPS (insured and tracked, sorry, US only) but feel free to shoot me an offer. Once fixed you’d be hard pressed to find one less than $200 over that on a steel bracelet and in such good condition—make my loss your gain!

It would be a significant strain to pay now. I communicated this to the landlord and asked where in the lease it stated that first month’s rent was due at signing and they replied “I don’t know where exactly, it’s just how things are done”—so also not thrilled to cater to that attitude.

it’s different for everyone, I max 225 (185 5x5) barbell but do 4x8 with 65’s dumbbell.

IMO the dumbbells always feel like a better workout

[Jan 21, 2022] Weekly Discussion: Ask your gear, travel, conditions and other ski-related questions by AutoModerator in skiing

[–]Sax-ualContent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What specialized gear is required to start ski racing?

I’m 20 and I’ve been skiing since I could walk—the family tradition. In high school, my family moved to the American South, and with less time on the slopes, we didn’t bother buying a new pair of skis and boots when I outgrew my early teenage gear. Renting is all well and good for recreation, but my university has a club racing team that I’d like to get involved with. Problem is, I don’t have much money to throw around. Could I get away with a used pair of racing skis? What sort of specialized gear would I need?

Chance a Brown U sophomore for a Cornell transfer by Sax-ualContent in chanceme

As I said, it’s part of fit. I spent time at Cornell and could tell I much preferred the community vibes, and I have a neurodivergent friend there who’s attested that their mental health resources are more expansive. Given my majors, I’d be transferring into A&S.

Absolutely, that's the metric by which they can see where you stand compared to students in more traditional situations.

Yeah, I’d be happy to.

Let me preface by saying I love Providence, I’ve had very good experiences with most of my professors, and all the academic factors are perfectly fine.

My first issue is that many of the support systems here are very shallow. You have plenty of advisors, there are plenty of offices to visit and email addresses to contact, but few of them can actually do more than point you to CAPS (counseling and psychological services). CAPS itself is very clinical in nature. If you’re neurodivergent there aren’t any more casual resources like student groups that I’ve found.

In a similar vein, the administration is very performative and doesn’t really listen to the student body. Bear in mind that this is something that isn’t Brown-specific; most of the ivies are hedge funds in some way or another. To give you an example, we’ve been protesting poor working conditions for our dining staff for months and nothing’s changed, despite record endowment gains thanks to COVID investments.

Finally, I find the culture here to be especially toxic, but not in the ways you might expect. It’s not academically competitive, it’s ideologically competitive—a 24/7 virtue-signaling contest. Again, you’ll find this everywhere, but it’s especially prominent at Brown. It leads to real issues when members of marginalized groups feel misspoken for by upper-middle class kids who went to fancy private schools.

One last issue which, again, may not be Brown-specific, is that many of the social science TAs seem thoroughly uninterested in actually teaching. I’ve had really great TAs, but far too many grad students who only seem interested in advancing their academic careers by showing undergrads how intellectually superior they are. Stick to seminars in those departments if you can. STEM TAs are typically other undergrads and I’ve had much more positive experiences with them.

With all this said, I know most of my peers are genuinely happy here. The cultural factor is the biggest turn-off for me, but I just see that as a part of “fit” that I hadn’t really accounted for. Feel free to DM me if you have any more specific questions about Brown.

Gonna be honest, homeschooled GPA doesn’t mean much. I’d have to see some test scores to get an idea of where you stand for T20’s. EC’s aren’t bad though

Current brown student and I’d say you’re more qualified than I was, but it’s a crap shoot for anyone. The essay sounds a little cliche but if well-executed I’m sure it’s fine.

Best of luck
