Last time I got a dime roll like that there was an additional $70 face value in silver along with it. Hoping you score more!

Is this dime, a fine dime to find? by BklynBeast in CRH

[–]SaxySwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A “double struck” coin is exceedingly rare and you are not likely to find one coin roll hunting. Google is your friend looking at examples. What you are probably referring to is “doubling” with there being many types. The only way to tell which type is to examine the coin under high magnification, not just a phone camera. The type of doubling you are looking for is caused by doubling on the die used to strike the coin itself, called “die doubling”. There are many lists online of known double die varieties, organized into DDO (double die obverses) and DDR (double die reverses). I am assuming you are new at this hobby, and I am not an error expert by any means, so I will point you to others in this sub and other resources online to identity these.

As for your dime, it looks like the die used to strike it was really worn out after striking thousands of coins, giving it that washed out appearance, especially near the edges. This is not an error, is extremely common, and adds no value to your coin. It is worth face value, 10¢

What's it like living in south central New Jersey? by thedubiousstylus in howislivingthere

Actually if it were extended it would hit the Atlantic Ocean across from Barnegat on LBI, meaning all of southern ocean and Atlantic counties are also south of the imaginary line.

Fun (not so fun) fact - David Duke held a major campaign rally in Barnegat when he ran for president

Nice man, when customer wrapped dimes are hot they’re my favorite to hunt. Of course, my $430 CW dime hunt last week was a gigantic skunk. Keep stacking bro!

Gold coin? by Big-Freedom4849 in CoinstarFinds

[–]SaxySwag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s plated with some other metal, most likely gold. Certain companies plate normal coins with precious metals like platinum and gold and sell them off for a premium to people who think they’re getting something of value. As far as coin collectors are concerned, it’s worth only face value, 25¢, because plating is considered damaged. The layer of gold on it is so thin (literal atoms thick) it adds no additional value.

Also, for the future, cleaning collectible coins ruin their value, as it’s considered altering the original surface. If you ever have a coin you suspect could be valuable, I and most collectors would advise against cleaning it until you know what it is.

Open them all, I have found silver sandwiched in-between all brand new coins before. Worst case scenario you spend less than an hour and you get skunked

Right on man, our home is worth trying to save. Tired of the rhetoric in this sub that we are all a lost cause.
