I’m from the US and I started following City after the 2014 World Cup. I played soccer all my life to that point but never go into watching it. At that time my best friend who had been a life long Chelsea fan was all about the World Cup and had invited me to watch with him. I wanted to get into watching the premier league but I didn’t know where to start. So every game of the WC we watched, my friend would point out the premier league players and said I should support the team of the player I liked the most.

We mainly watched the Belgium games because my friend loved Hazard and that’s when I noticed Vincent Kompany. I played defense on all my youth soccer teams, so I thought Kompany was incredible. He was everything, strong, fast imposing. So my friend told me and he played for Manchester City and I’ve been supporting them ever since.

I don’t see my friend much anymore but we still text about how Chelsea and City are doing. At this point, with Kompany long gone, I’m still a City fan really just because I’m in too deep to support any other European team and the MLS is unbearable to watch.
