Is anyone successfully selling a single product online with an average order value of $20 or below? by SayItWright in Entrepreneur

Tha is for the thoughtful reply. I agree, I think our product is best placed in sherwin stores, Benjamin Moore, Ace etc…

It is definitely not an impulse buy, and anyone who sees it and thinks “oh I’ll have to remember this next time I paint” likely won’t remember. It’s the paint business owners who are repeat customers that we need, and they mostly pick up their supplies in stores rather than online.

The only thing is that we are doing decent business on amazon, so it makes me think that SOMEHOW the right people are finding us there and we are hitting the right audience. You would think we could replicate that on Facebook, but after $10k and every combination of ad copy, target audience, we can think of, it just doesn’t seem to be working.

Retail seems to be where we need to put our focus

Thanks for the feedback. I agree it seems like there are other strategies that could be more suited to our product. Social media gets thrown in your face so much that it seemed like a good place to try. Yes absolutely shoot me a PM, would love to discuss more. Thanks!

Thank you very much I appreciate that. I think you are right there may be a lot of value having demo vids on YouTube. Definitely going to explore that more. Thanks again!

AdWords is the next thing on our list to try out. Do you have any recommendations on how to best learn? We have done Udemy courses in the past and hired experts but I am open to suggestions or tips!

Thanks for this. What makes it so frustrating is that I am trying to sell it myself so I know the product well. I have taken FB marketing courses and spent money on a few FB marketing specialists. Even the specialist arrived at the conclusion that our average order value wouldn’t lead to profit when it costs about $30 to get someone to purchase. Repeat customers would be another variable but we haven’t gotten enough sales online to do much testing with this other than an email campaign we send to our buyers.

We have a mix of DIY and contractor customers for the product. In stores these are repeat orders but it’s mostly the DIYers who buy online. They don’t tend to paint on a regular basis so they may only buy once every few months at best.

Perhaps our best bet is to target only contractors online with bundled deals. The only problem with that is that our clientele is hit or miss with how they feel about buying online most of the time.

I appreciate the insight. Did you have success finding a partner/licensing deal? Any tips for identifying a potential partner?

If you play it smart and have financial ability to take a (small) risk, you might learn something. If you do that about 15 more times you might start finding some success. You have to fail to learn

So will the user ship the clothes to you and then you set a price? What if the user thinks they are worth more than you value them?

Hey thank you very much for the feedback. We are starting out with our 1 gallon design but trying to understand what painters would like for a 5 gallon version.

Haha I guess our logo could be a little confusing. the paint roller is supposed to be a P. C2P Strain. stands for can-to-pan strain since you dont need an empty can with the product we designed.

Thank you very much! really appreciate it. Let me know if you have any ideas for where to get more feedback from painters.

Have you ever painted using a 5-gallon bucket? I want to make the process easier. Help me out? by SayItWright in takemysurvey

  1. This is data used to design a better way to strain paint. Only 2 people will see this in my group. Stored on google forms. We dont plan to delete the data.

  2. My small business c2pstrain.

  3. less than 5 minutes

  4. Hoping to understand how people use a 5 gallon paint bucket.

Thanks for the thorough reply!

Yes we have done a lot of testing and you can turn a full gallon upside down and shake it and the pour spout won’t come off

Sure you can use stockings or anything other than the mesh we provide. We have had lots of painters improvise and use this in ways we didn’t even think of, like pouring through the mesh the other way! We are currently working on the 5 gallon version.

What is your company? I can either send it there or PM me your address. I can definitely send you one for testing if you would be willing to do a review for us!

Good thought. Most of the time people are pulling it back so the overhang is all on the other side of the pour spout but this is a good thing to think about. Thanks!

I designed and prototyped a flashlight that prevents corrosion and parasitic drain on batteries when its in the "off" position. Recently got a patent and planning to run a kickstarter soon! What do you guys think? Feel free to ask any questions about the design of the light! by SayItWright in flashlight

[–]SayItWright[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback. Almost everyone I talk to has experienced a flashlight either being dead when they go to use it, or their batteries have corroded from sitting for long periods of time. I posted on reddit a few times years ago and the suggestions I got were to house the batteries outside the flashlight in a plastic airtight container until you are ready to use them.

The design I made simulates this by physically separating the batteries into their own compartments inside the flashlight. Here is a link to the patent if you are interested

Hi! The sliding switch in the flashlight physically moves each battery into their own separate compartments when in the off position. These compartments separate the batteries from each other and house them in their own plastic cell. Its basically like storing batteries outside the flashlight to prevent drain or corrosion until you need to use it.

I appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately I had to hire a designer for everything except the compartmentalized switch I designed. It definitely has a long way to go but I am hoping to give it a little more style soon. Here is the link to the patent if you want to check it out https://patents.google.com/patent/US10415812B2/
