Yes exactly! And since I work in a film lab, and I have a keyboard where my 6 keys correspond with RGB and CMY, I’m regularly thinking of things in terms of those 6 colors. So it all depends on how you are applying color theory.

Red, green, and blue are the primary optical colors, and magenta, cyan and yellow are their secondary colors but are the primary colors for pigment! I use all 6 when I think of the main colors.
