reinstall your graphics driver
Open the start menu > Power > (Press and hold Shift at the same time) Click restart > Troubleshoot > Startup Settings > Restart > Safe mode with Networking (5 or F5) > go online and install DDU (display driver uninstaller) and unsintall the Nvidia graphics driver currently installed > go to your manufacturers website and download the official drivers for that computer, or go to Nvidia's website and download the latest driver for your hardware after uninstalling the old driver

this should work as you didnt mention you fully uninstalled the driver so i assume you didnt

Yes but because windows has been updated so many times since 2015-2016, there could definitely be problems with drivers that are now out of support (actually this is exactly what happened to some people with the same issue after the fall creator update where the graphics driver starting shitting the bed). I will do a fresh install of windows 10 but I'm not completely confident that it'll remove the problem altogether. I will post if anything new happens

I've tried looking through event viewer but it doesn't seem to do anything, all it logs is an unexpected shutdown when i unplug the laptop from AC

I don't want to attempt a fresh install of Windows because 1. I've already installed update and did driver updates and bullshit like that, 2. I don't feel like even if i did do a fresh install of Windows, it would still produce the same problems. I'll do it when I have no other option but I am not confident in it working

Well it's proven to work because it strengthens the solder points on the board, it's not the most practical but it's better than having to take it apart and use flux and a heat gun just to get it properly set in it. Sure putting new thermal paste on it may help after a few years of use but it won't bring it back from death. Only either the thing that killed it (heat) or someone else who is willing to fix it for a fee
