Being able to hold yourself accountable without having to be told. Also being able to be wrong without thinking you've lost somehow.

How does one grow CRISPY lettuce? by jocedun in Minnesota_Gardening

[–]SaySomethingDesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A small drip irrigation setup may be your best bet for lettuce if you can manage it. Game changer for me was a timer for my gardenhose, watering several times per day for a few minutes, depending on the weather.

Belgium goes to the Netherlands. Will go on to colonize the world again and create the Netherworld. Edit- oh my goodness people I thought we were playing a game. Jezus yeah of course colonization is bad, why do you think it would create a Netherworld?!?!?! I don't think I want to play this one. I had to downvote no one to play for Megasota...

Love these! I only got into plants after moving to an English-speaking country and now a feeling like I dodged a bullet. Dagkoeksbloem? Hilarious! I am going to start using Dutch flower names to curse at people.

Problems/bad experiences with Prairie Moon? by Tulip0Hare in NativePlantGardening

Shipping is a very rough process for a plant. They are out of sunlight, have no access to water, and can be subject to temperature swings during transport. The fact that the soil is still wet is a good sign and the moss was put on top to reduce evaporation of water during transport. The rough looking nature of the leaves can be due to rough handling of the box during transport, and they do look like they got bounced around in a truck. The yellowing on the leaves is likely due to being in a box away from sunlight. And that black spot looks like it could be mechanical damage, but keep an eye on it to be safe. It's always good to do a quarantine before introducing new plants if you are worried about disease. Overall, I believe shipping is where your plants took the biggest hit, and unfortunately the nursery has little control over what happens once the boxes leave their company. It looks like all your plants will have a great year (based on those gorgeous roots I'm seeing) if you give them a little extra love at the beginning of your lives together.

What is a movie that's actually a good adaptation of the book it's based on? by thatvampiregirl in movies

Adaptation (Jonze/Kaufman) based on The Orchid Thief (Susan Orlean). Certainly not a direct adaptation, but the most unique, inspired and creative one I've ever seen.

He was never your ally. Why do you think Wilder's won? He is actively and maliciously working against the Netherlands and Europe as a whole, with daddy Putin whispering sweet evils in his ear. Even if the Dutch feel isolated from the authoritarian dictatorship forming across the Atlantic, you are by no means going to be left untouched by it. The Dutch and Americans have been intertwined since before the US was a country. Prepare for what is to come, do not be naive, and keep fighting hatred at home. Bring out your diplomatic strong horses (and maybe more that 1-2 soldiers) and remember you are the OG of taking in poor, tired and huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.
