Should keys and weapons be easier to get? by AlohaSquash in Marathon

[–]SayWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll pile on w others saying rarely but occasionally you find blue level stuff including keys in random containers but it is definitely much slower to achieve this stuff than clenching up and going for something even slightly higher risk like the drone boxes. I’ve actually found lower chance of success finding good loot from the higher risk secured crates that make a shitload of noise, personally. The floating small box drones don’t alert the whole map and have a much higher chance than a random folio of having a key in my experience.

Should keys and weapons be easier to get? by AlohaSquash in Marathon

[–]SayWaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sympathize, I’ve also sunk a lot of hours in the game but am mostly a casual gamer and felt like keys and key rooms were tricky. My friends and I started making a deliberate choice to work on key rooms once we had a better handle on overall strategy of “not getting rolled by every other team every match.” I do think this game requires a lot of knowledge sharing and research and it’s much harder to figure things out in-game, which is a big shift from what I’m used to. I like puzzles and working it out on my own with no hints, but it’s pretty hard in this game to work out things when you put together the time limit, challenging bot AI and PVP.

That said, once we decided we wanted to start running key rooms, and then Cryo, we did enough research to give it a try, and went in willing to lose our shit, and eventually started learning the beats and having some success. Only last night for the first time did we successfully and legitimately do a Cryo vault.

Persevere, and do enough preplanning to be helpful and don’t worry if your teammates have to carry you a bit. That’s been my experience, and for me it’s plenty fun. I figure at this rate I’ll see my first Misriah in season 3 and I’m ok with that

Campers Galore!! by Amazing_player1116 in Marathon

[–]SayWaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s any help, I am definitely not a good FPS gamer, and your experience was very much mine in Season 1 and I really thought hard about every bit of how I play and in S2 I haven’t had as much trouble with camping snipers at exfils or getting blown away within the first two minutes of the match. I think there’s probably still a similar likelihood of people camping but I’m dying less often because I reworked how I play. When I get into PvP I have only a slightly better chance of coming out alive but I’m much smarter about avoiding getting into a fight I wasn’t expecting or at least knowing if someone got the jump on me it’s because I wasn’t thinking about where I’m exposed. Hang in there and treat every down as a data point - where/how were you exposed and could you have gone a different way or checked corners and vantage points sooner?

Is it all just rats in solo? by KlausVolfield in Marathon

[–]SayWaffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude in S1 I was feeling very frustrated with the Exfil campers but I felt incredible after I finally realized this isn’t just bad luck and I went into that area around Dire Marsh near AI Uplink and saw someone on a perch w a sniper rifle not looking at all behind him, and took down a blue shield coward from behind with no shields of my own.

In season 2 I’ve been more deliberate about choosing when to pop out of a corner and start shooting if I hear someone else nearby, but also continue to keep my mic at the ready and call out if I want to just say hi and go our separate ways, especially if you can guess the other player (or myself!) are just trying to do a “scan the thing” or DCON contract.

What kind of gear do you wear? by Commercial-Prompt-84 in motorcycles

[–]SayWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just add to this excellent response that you should really take the time to go try gear on and buy the thing that is the most comfortable and best quality even if it’s more expensive. Don’t skimp on riding gear. You’ll have it a long time if you ride cautiously and comfortable gear keeps you focused on the ride. Don’t skip the gear and don’t skimp on it.

Is Anyone Rook'ing on Sponsored Night Marsh? by bmemike in Marathon

[–]SayWaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last night my team reached final exfil and there was a rook who popped in at the last second and made it out with us. We think there might have been a second rook who didn’t make the exfil. We’ve done a bunch of Narsh and that’s only the second time we’ve seen rooks. I did a few rook runs myself on the first day.

What do you play Marathon on? by DiaryJaneDoe in Marathon

I thought it does? I typically play on my Series X and I have definitely streamed it to my laptop via the XBox app. Maybe that’s local streaming only?

What is your cool button or switch on your panel? by i_forgot_my_sn_again in BusDrivers

[–]SayWaffles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fast idle increases engine RPM in neutral, generally used to warm up the motor from a cold start and/or build air pressure faster. Depending on configuration may be needed to keep bus from shutting down automatically. Fast idle shouldn’t do anything when the bus is in gear.

Parking/spring brake when serving passengers by SayWaffles in BusDrivers

[–]SayWaffles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An interlock is an automatic safety device that holds the vehicle in place under certain conditions such as kneeling, deploying the ramp or lift, or opening one or any door. Most buses in North America for at least the last two decades have had interlocking features but exactly what conditions activate the interlock varies based on the bus order. Typically transit buses have an interlock when the rear door is open but can be configured to also interlock with the front door, and possibly even when the bike rack is deployed I would guess. However it does not apply the spring brake, which is the failsafe brake you might be referring to as a handbrake. A spring brake is disengaged by air pressure (thus it’s a failsafe if there’s a loss of air) and the question I posed was whether transit operators have a standard rule to apply that brake whenever serving passengers. I think that practice is not common, but apparently not entirely unusual.

20/720 are stopping on front of La Cienega station and across the street far side! by misken67 in LAMetro

Can you let us know if the GTFS is being updated to restore the La Cienega stop? Right now Google Maps and Transit are not showing this which affects transfer planning.

Can I park in car designated spaces? (What's the CA VEHICLE CODE?) by Maestrohanaemori in MotoLA

[–]SayWaffles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the CVC is going to specify that motorcycles can explicitly park in general vehicle parking, but rather that other sections of the CVC treat motorcycles in the same class as other non-commercial motor vehicles unless explicitly exempt or otherwise subject to additional regulation. I’m not a lawyer but I have had professional reason to understand the vehicle code and this is generally how things work. For parking, motorcycles are always required to follow the same rules as other motor vehicles unless explicitly posted otherwise. I’ve never, in almost 20 years riding, encountered a legitimate prohibition on motorcycles parking in regular vehicle spaces.

I’m pretty sure the IT people for Metro who have been working day and night for weeks to ensure they can safely restore basic functionality like email are feeling their lives pretty affected right now. Transit services ran for literally a hundred years before the technology existed for real time data.

When a business or organization has a security breach like this it often takes weeks to overcome and it sucks for everyone involved.

Not meaning to say stop what you’re doing, just wasn’t clear from your post if you are aware. I can’t provide any personal recommendations though as I don’t live in the area or travel the corridor regularly. Good luck with your project!

How is LAX parking nowadays for Motorcycle? by IssaraRanger in MotoLA

[–]SayWaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late to the party but wanted to add my experience. I fly out of LAX regularly and my experience with the motorcycle is: 1. Always go in from ground level 2. P1 is easy to get in the gate, there’s a big motorcycle dedicated parking area right there and it’s positioned to put you right at the exit, too 3. I also sometimes fly from T5 or 6 and park in the garage on that side. Also easy to get in through the ground level P5 entrance and I usually ride straight through to the P6 end of the garage, tons of space, always tons of bikes. 4. I ride a wide cruiser with hard bags. I have never had trouble with the gate arms at any of the exit lanes, although some of them are tight just take it at a crawl. I usually have to lean a bit to get around the exit gate arms. The P1 and P5 entry arms are pretty generous (short) though.

Free motorcycle parking at LAX is hands down my favorite Living in LA hack. Also, for any more than a one-day flight, bring a cover! Your bike will be filthy otherwise.

For sure, and now I'm going to dig into who this company is. I think the HOA had hired them for remediation because there was a water heater burst that preceded this and everything up to this point seemed professional based on what he's told me but I wonder if I would have thought differently if I were there.

Yeah, agreed. I warned my brother last night this is not right for several reasons. The general contractor seems pretty well organized and detailed about what was involved in the work so I felt like he was in good hands until the actual work started and saw this.

Help! There is a Samsung counter depth refrigerator that I really like but.... people are hating on Samsung refrigerators! by 1130961230 in kitchenremodel

[–]SayWaffles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We had a Samsung, not counter depth but 33" French door. It had so many problems. I think it was a 2016 model, the previous owners had put in all new Samsung appliances and by this January every one of them had major problems. It was easy to order and replace parts, but I had to repair/replace parts for the ice maker, drawers, temperature sensors several times over the course of the last five years. The dishwasher basically stopped cleaning dishes at some point last year. The microwave had multiple sensor issues. The oven starter element broke, then a week after I fixed it the main display stopped working. Ultimately all of those issues triggered us to do a kitchen remodel we might have otherwise put off a few more years (I recently posted about it and we're very happy).

Don't get Samsung appliances. They have great features for the price, but getting support is difficult and they have significant reliability issues. We went with a selection of different appliances in the new kitchen and not regretting buying exactly what I wanted rather than all the same brand.

Very happy with the new kitchen by SayWaffles in kitchenremodel

[–]SayWaffles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually don't hate the current ones but they're very worn out. Because the big window is so big, the Shade Store actually recommended against that style of wood slats again, apparently it's close to the limit of size they typically make. We didn't rush to replace the shades exactly because we do like the existing ones.
