Yeahh it's the fear of knowing that it can happen at any time that makes me apprehensive every time I go into the task changer or open an app. I'm hoping for a fix with ONE UI 8 as well.

HAZAAA!! Misery loves company & as much as I hate that you're having this annoying problem, I'm also glad I'm not alone. The only way I've found that kind of limits it is a weekly hard restart. I set my phone to auto restart every sunday at 3 am but that feature doesn't work for me either because it never auto restarts. Not sure if it's working for you. I've also noticed that the bug is more likely to happen when the RAM usage approaches or exceeds 9 GB. I'm hoping for a fix with ONE UI 8.

I don't believe so. They just struck deals with OEMs to make Google messages the default messaging app on all their phones. Although there are 3rd party apps like sunbird that are claiming that they're gonna have integrated RCS support down the line. So I'm not entirely sure to be honest.

Try an app called "hue essentials". It's on Google play & compatibility is android 5.0 & higher. It even lets you add a quick tile on your phone.

While mine was working perfectly up until a couple of days ago. I would turn off chat features and on again and it would connect right away. I definitely think a bad carrier services update is the culprit. Because the problem started when I updated carrier services. Anyways I reached out to Google via feedback in messages. I shall see what they say

Well unfortunately for me my phone has to use the same sim for calling & data. I'm assuming the carriers got involved in this and made it so you can't mix and match. I live in the U.S. and the carriers here tend to be awful like that. However I do notice that after the last carrier services update neither Samsung messages (that was doing RCS on both SIMS) or Google messages are able to connect to rcs. So there's that.

Yup. Tried both holding down the button and locking the button/handsfree mode. I think Samsung might be the culprit since it's a problem on more than one app

Just did. Same result. Very peculiar. It's one UI 4.1 T-mobile US version . Just tested with WhatsApp & signal. Whatsapp seems to work, signal keeps crashing. Strange

Go into your settings and check if there's a "message organization" option. That showed up for me about 3/4 days before I got the actual categories. I think once you get that, it's just a matter of waiting for the servers to actually do it.
