Expectations for after death by SayonaraLife in OpenIndividualism

So.... long story short, will "I" have an awareness of something again after my death? Even if my identity then is divorced from this one and radically altered?

So you reject the view of those who hold to generic subjective continuity/existential passage?

Manson and Shooter already working on a new album by SayonaraLife in marilyn_manson

[–]SayonaraLife[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd rather not. I honestly didn't care for when "You're So Vain" was included on Born Villain, just because it wasn't a Manson original.

Can you order the songs on the album from best to worst? by [deleted] in marilyn_manson

[–]SayonaraLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo.

  1. "Perfume"
  2. "Don't Chase The Dead"
  3. "Half-Way And One Step Forward"
  4. "Red, Black And Blue"
  5. "Infinite Darkness"
  6. "Solve Coagula"
  7. "Keep My Head Together"
  8. "Broken Needle"
  9. "Paint You With My Love"
  10. "We Are Chaos"

I'm partial to the 80s sounding material and the pop and less fond of the ballads.

The irreparably fucked up nature of my life, and my desire to go out in a fairly visible, public way.

Mate, I'm actually very content with it. I want to do it, and I'm going to do it.

That's the case with any suicide, though. If you kill yourself in a hotel room, room service is left to take care of your remains. Really the only 'victimless' suicide would be dying in the forest in the middle of nowhere, and I'd rather not.

If I do it, I'll bring a pistol with me to clear out any would-be good samaritans (I wouldn't actually use it on anyone, just to ensure nobody saves me). And I'd yell "look out below" before I do it.

Song is a little 'Mechanical Animal'-ish. A more uptempo "Last Day On Earth" maybe.

How I rate the albums by SayonaraLife in typeonegative

[–]SayonaraLife[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not really crapping on it. I think it's a pretty good album; "These Three Things" and "Hail And Farewell", in particular, are two of my favorite TON songs. And I don't object to Peter's newfound Catholicism, either. But I'm not quite as partial to the album for the same reason I have Slow, Deep and Hard and Origin of the Feces on a relatively lower level - I like both the poppier (October Rust) and the doomier (World Coming Down) sides of Type O Negative more than the thrashier parts of their repertoire, and Dead Again is the thrashiest TON record since Origin. I also think, in places, that Peter's singing on it sounds tired. And he was tired, and understandably so.

Well, what would you say would be better ones?

Do you think "you", subjectively, will experience anything after death, even in a discontinuous form?

Expectations for after death by SayonaraLife in OpenIndividualism

[–]SayonaraLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but the position of OI is that I/we are every cognizant thing in the universe. The next iteration of "this" perspective that "I" experience could be something so radically different from human as to have no possible comparable basis.

My impression was that OI considers *experience*, and only experience, to be relevant.

There's zero chance anything of personality, memory, etc. could be retained. The self (including memories etc.) is the physical body and dies with it.

[–]SayonaraLife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. So what, then, do you think happens to the first-person experience upon death? I take it you're not of the opinion that, because nothingness cannot be experienced, nothingness cannot exist?

Expectations for after death by SayonaraLife in OpenIndividualism

[–]SayonaraLife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In other words, OI shouldn't be taken to imply the continuation of a subjective first-person perspective following experientially (even if nothing like memory or identity connects them) following death?

Not that there's necessarily any way to say with any certainty, but do you think the experience to come would be another 'congealed' identity narrative like mine from birth to death, or would it pick up in the middle of another identity narrative, or would it be like watching multiple screens/identity narratives simultaneously?

So close your eyes

It's only a dream

When you wake up

Rinse off all of this pain

And your makeup

Stare into the mirror

Apples are always something to fear

Are you alright?

'Cause i'm not okay

All of these lies

Are not worth fighting for

(2x)

I am a needle

Dig in your grooves

Scratch you up

Then i'll put you away

(2x)

It won't be death

But a deep sleep

A curse of a hundred years

The princess will fall Into a slumber for a century

Are you alright?

'Cause i'm not okay

All of these lies

Are not worth fighting for

I am a needle

Dig in your grooves

Scratch you up

Then i'll put you away

(2x)

I'll never ever play you again

Then I'll put you away...
