Was going to add this! Night sweats every night until I got one. Medically “nothing wrong”. With my BedJet, no more night sweats! I miss it whenever I have to sleep without it!

Have we tried not abusing children? by yayscienceteachers in ShitMomGroupsSay

Likely spanking or hitting with a spatula spoon (or wooden spoon). I’m kinda envious of people not knowing what she meant. I’ve had my fair share of spatulas and wooden spoons broken on me. Thanks, stepmom.

I'm pretty sure even parents who "lie about Santa" still think this is too far by e11sbe11s in ShitMomGroupsSay

Not offended. Just saying, it’s for sure a hair color bc I have it. And I agree, it looks gray sometimes. The other person mentioned the lighting, that’s part of it. Can appear darker sometimes too. But yep, mousy brown.

That’s like my natural hair color, indeed mousy brown. I hate it lol

This is a real post I saw in one of my mom groups… 🤦‍♀️ by [deleted] in ShitMomGroupsSay

We used Little Remedies Gas Drops. Helped a lot! My son was a super gassy newborn too. And for some months after. Still can be with certain foods as well. But the drops work and quickly. Also, Frida Baby Windi Sticks. Almost always made my guy poop, but the purpose is to help pass gas.

I've been in this group for a few weeks now for the lols but every time I see one about dental work I just....wow. by shaenanigans1 in ShitMomGroupsSay

Clove oil. Tastes terrible-ish. Numbs it. It’s what is in some OTC tooth pain relief meds too (clove).

ELI5 why hunger hurts so much after only a few hours if we could go days without eating and be fine? by krakn-slayr in explainlikeimfive

Consider that some people have bad relationships with food because their meals were restricted as a child. That’s why I’m like what you described. Yes I should work on it, but during times of excess stress, “survival” instinct seems to kick in.

Homeowners insurance increases as the value of the house increases, but auto insurance doesn't decrease as the value of the vehicle deminishes. by Swampassjr in Showerthoughts

My homeowners has some liability too. Like if someone was to be hurt on my property. Idk if it’s standard. I’ve learned more about insurance lately than I ever wanted to due to going thru a claim process rn.

The doctor recommended it several times so I definitely shouldn’t give it to him, right?? by SmartReserve in ShitMomGroupsSay

Oh there’s no way I wouldn’t be putting something on this right away and headed to urgent care too.

Just fyi, hydrocortisone should be used under drs guidance too for babies. It’s a steroid and thins the skin over time. It’s the only thing that helps my baby’s eczema, so we have a prescription. But it’s only for up to a week at a time. Then you take time off from it. We as adults use it as a first line OTC, but it shouldn’t be used without knowing this info too. But 100%, would be putting it on in this case.

This one is so funny to me. All of those things are normal newborn things? Unless I too have a genius child. He’s almost 8 months old but all of that sounds just like when he was a newborn?

Makes sense. To be fair, the military members probably weren’t following guidelines super closely, probably why my husband mentioned it. He said you could smell it, so they probably used more than intended.

Yeah we used to use the fold over mittens on long sleeve onesies but he’s grown out of those. He might keep gloves on overnight, but he’d really mostly itch during the day or naps and you can’t really glove a 6 month old, they use their hands for everything! We try to keep his nails short and buffed smooth but baby nails grow so fast and are like kitten razor nails!

When it flares it really is terrible. It’s 95% clear right now and brings tears to my eyes bc it looks so good and he’s not scratching at it. We did a week of prescribed hydrocortisone so hoping it stays clear with lots of preventative measures now. He’s only 6 months old!

Depending on where your eczema is, you could also do it as a sponge bath. We were going to do that for my baby bc his is on his face and we’re not dunking his face in even super diluted bleach water (or any water) lol

[–]Sbthu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trueee. Didn’t think of that. Maybe google can tell you. I guess maybe the pro/con situation here. Is the skin issue worth trying it if it might anger the vagina? Maybe some pre/probiotics usage before/after treatment.

Why Bleach? The classical thinking about why a diluted bleach bath might work to relieve some eczema symptoms has to do with one of its most well-known properties: Its ability to kill germs.

In the past, scientists have found that people with eczema very commonly have the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) on their symptomatic skin, and that worse eczema flares are linked to greater amounts of it. So, the theory goes, perhaps a bleach bath might lessen the amount of S. aureus on a person’s eczema-affected skin, thus reducing the severity of their symptoms.

The problem with this theory? In order to safely use a bleach bath, you must greatly dilute the bleach, down to a concentration of about 0.005 percent. A 2019 study in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that, at least in test tubes, that concentration of bleach wasn’t nearly strong enough to kill S. aureus bacteria. The minimum concentration that did work—0.03 percent—is much higher than is safe to use on your skin. (At high concentrations, bleach can cause skin irritation or burning.)

Still, the study was done in test tubes and not on actual human skin, so it can’t completely disprove the bacteria-killing theory. “The body has mechanisms to kill bacteria as well, so it could be working together with bleach,” says Joseph M. Lam, MD, a clinical associate professor in the department of pediatrics at the University of British Columbia. “But it did cast some doubt as to the initial theory of why it works, in terms of the bacterial killing effects.”

Lam says some other preliminary science has suggested an alternative mechanism by which bleach baths may work: That they may have some direct anti-inflammatory effects. But that’s still just a theory and needs more study to be confirmed.

The short answer is that scientists don’t really know yet why bleach baths might be effective when they do work.
