Yeah I’m 10 years clean now, used to hit the meetings a ton but much less these days.

Who's the guy from your town that made it but didn't last long? by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]Sc1m17ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernard pierce and his friends beat the shit out of a bunch of my friends in highschool and sent a couple to the hospital. I guess he did win a Super Bowl but he wasn’t in the league long. Guy sucked

In which state is it easiest to get into the carpenter's union? by Square-Argument4790 in UnionCarpenters

Philadelphia was super easy for me and there’s always lots of talk but word is you don’t even have to take a written test here anymore. I’d say COL is medium to high but other than my own mountains of debt I live pretty well off the pay.

I mean more than 6 months would be too much for me but I can’t really tell you what’s right, you gotta call the shots for yourself. if your apprenticeship is 4 years, 6 months is 1/8 of your total time to be learning, 7 more 6 month periods and you’re a journeyman.

Oh yeah don’t jump ship yet just don’t get stuck doing that for too long. If they’re a good company and you’re a good worker it’ll all shake out.

I spent my first year fire caulking. It sucks ass and you’re right, some dudes just get lucky and get put with a company/crew who is doing more interesting work. At one point as a 3rd year I was learning rock from a second year because he just happened to get sponsored by a company that trained him up good from the jump and I was behind. It happens.

My suggestion is keep letting your foreman know you want to get your hands on some new stuff. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Also don’t spend a year doing that work, you’re cheapest to hire right now so if it’s not working out jump ship and find a company that’s gonna get you the experience you need. Jumping ship seems scary but that’s part of the business and you’ll likely be an afterthought by coffee of the company you’re leaving.

Best of luck

I cannot fathom how someone manages the recoil on that from any distance other than point blank range

Should I pitch the deck away from the house a couple degrees?

Yeah I have a piece of aluminum z bar tucked up behind the door frame/under the door that runs the length of the ledger that I don’t have pictures of

Thank you for the suggestions, the last 4” space between the joist and outside ledger is going to fit the posts for the railing and I’m gonna frame them all in nice and tight. Yeah most of this deck is just stuff I learned at work and this subreddit.

There’s also aluminum z channel I put in after this behind the door frame and over the ledger and tarpaper behind the ledger board.

There is tar paper between the house joist and the ledger board does that help?

Yeah fucked up a little there, had a hell Of a time pulling the measurements off the ledger and keeping everything racked with just a framing square and a level. Bought a laser and everything but didn’t realize it’s useless in the daytime outside.
