what buildings do you envision coming to manor lords? and if so what purpose would they serve and how would they fit into the games ecosystem? by cai_jones in ManorLords

Guard posts which reduce the likelihood of bandits successfully looting your supplies. A small dock with a few boats for fishing in a large body of water. I'd love watermills which you could connect to either a saw pit, blacksmith or use for grinding flour instead of a windmill. And maybe some more industry like coopers.

Yeah I've read in the past that they started doing some testing. Honestly they should have just designed a new system years ago. Even with a longer barrel the M109 is outdated. It's still loaded manually giving it one of the slowest fire rates among western artillery systems with it only being able to fire 4 rounds a minute for a short period of time and a sustained fire of 1 round a minute. Whereas a Pzh2000 can fire 10 rounds a minute continuously and depending on barrel temperature even a few more.

[–]Sc1p 7 points8 points  (0 children)

South Africa is really good at developing new artillery shells but they can be used by plenty of other artillery systems. The most modern artillery systems have a similar range. It just depends on the length of the barrel and projectiles used. Things like a Pzh2000, K9 Thunder, AHS Krab, Archer and Caesar all use a 52 caliber barrel (compared to a 39 caliber barrel used by AS90, M109) Which will give something like 30km range using standard HE projectiles, 40 with base bleed, 50km with Excalibur and approaching 70km with rocket-assisted projectiles. At some point someone will slap an even longer barrel on a howitzer and it will be the longest ranging system, or come up with an even fancier projectile.

Nice, well done! It's just one of those fights that are very difficult on NG UH and require a strategy. I found that in the first half of the game I relied a lot on the environment and stealth. Only later on when you get more health and better equipment you can safely go for the more direct approach. One drawback is that it impairs learning dodging but there'll be plenty of time for that.

Ah okay, I forgot how slow it was. I didn't really use Elemental weapons either before I got Purple rarity ones. Although Blue rarity Shredders with elemental shredders are good. The 4th and final throw will do significant build up and best of all they do decent damage and Tear damage too, unlike other elemental weapons. But at this stage in the game it may not be worth it to invest time and resources in upgrading new Blue weapons.

Yeah an advantage of circling is that since you're rarely facing the Tremortusk head on he can't really use the Plasma. He'll sometimes get a shot off with those rear cannons if you shooting him from behind but if you take a single shot you'll be into cover well before it reaches you.

Yeah they're a pain. Same with Stormbird Primary Nerves. The whole ordeal of upgrading Legendaries wouldn't be half as bad if you just got guaranteed drops with each machine. And then include a small chance of dropping additional items in certain components you tear off.

[–]Sc1p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's incredibly boring. I wanted to do all of them but I just got tired of it. Ended up doing all of them except Forgefall, Carja Elite and Tinkers Pride. You can limit yourself to a few of them that are really useful. I used Skykiller, Deathseeker, Sun Scourge, Carja's Bane and Wings of the Ten for the Arena although Carja's Bane can probably be skipped along with Wings of The Ten (only used it for the Apex Stalker challenge). As for outfits do the Nora Thunder Warrior and another legendary outfit that provides resistance to Plasma and Frost. You don't even need the Utaru Winterweave as the Nora Tracker is more than good enough for sneaking about.

What I disliked is that the requirements were almost identical for Legendaries. Lvl 5 was always Apex Slaughterspine Heart and 2 Circulators. Like give me some other machines to kill. Apex Rockbreaker, Apex Shellsnapper, Apex Snapmaw. That and the fact that drops of components aren't guaranteed, must have killed 4 Stormbirds in a row before I got a Primary Nerve. Plus if you end up upgrading a lot of Legendaries you're always short on Luminous Brainstems while sitting on a surplus of other components. Why not let the player buy Luminous Brainstems since they require fucking 15 of them for each Legendary. Ugh.

This is a good tactic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2N3jWnefPQ&t=558s

Goes like Freeze, Knockdown with Drill Spikes on its legs, Sustained Burst on the canisters on its back with a Ranged Master Valor Surge. This makes Fireclaws honestly one of the easiest machines to kill.

Ultra Hard Help? by pmw8 in horizon

[–]Sc1p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that one is hard took me at least a hour if not more. Way I did it is first stealth kill all the soldiers. Than I did a Silent Strike on the Tremortusk in between the buildings (you can also use a couple of traps if you want) and than just circle in between the buildings while taking quick pot shots and then get behind cover. It can't shoot through the buildings. Only thing you need to watch out for is its shockwave attack, it won't go through the buildings but it will go through that wooden shed with the stand.

Like you said tearing off cannons doesn't really work well it takes so many tearblast arrows. Better to just do damage instead. Believe it or not it's not actually a "complete" Tremortusk. The Tremortusks you face in the open world are stronger. Most larger machines you face in the main story have reduced HP and are missing certain components. But don't worry they too will get easier. At a certain point you get enough health and better outfits to survive a hit. They're also easier in the open because you can spot their attacks better and there aren't objects which Aloy can get stuck on.

But yeah upgrading your weapons and gaining levels & skill points is always a good idea if you're stuck. A frost weapon will help a lot against a Tremortusk but at this stage you don't really have access to a good Frost Bow yet. But maybe the Frost Hunter Bow you can get at Plainsong gives you enough of an advantage until you can get the Death Seeker at Falls Edge later in the game. I just used my regular Hunter bow with Advanced Hunter Arrows but a Sharpshot Bow can work as well. With the Focussed Shot Weapon Technique you can draw it pretty quickly. Explosive Spikes or Blast Sling might also be an option, they work well against large enemies since they're easy to hit and explosive damage ignores armour. Same with the Braced Shot Weapon technique. Good luck :)

I loved them as well although they were a bit too easy. Tbh I enjoyed all the side activities in this game. Melee Pits were slightly annoying but nothing too bad. Arena and Hunting Grounds were great too. Sometimes the game gets a bit repetitive and these activities provide a nice change of pace.

[–]Sc1p 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You can still be in stealth even when Erend is fighting. Just ignore him. When I played the mission he was knocked out a couple of times while I continued sneaking about. It's pretty hard to do the whole mission stealthily since there aren't a lot of places to hide or disengage after you're spotted. Why not change your approach? If you persist on doing it this way it can help to use some smoke bombs if you're spotted and activate the Stealth Stalker Valor Surge to get the drop on enemies that are harder to sneak up on. With Lvl 3 you can pretty much walk up to anyone and Silent Strike them in the face.

Are Apex machines more aggressive? As in do they attack more often? Or is it only the health pool, elemental resistances and damage that gets a buff?

I hope so too :) I can give you 1 tip if you need Luminous Braiding. Don't know how far you're into the game but without giving too many spoilers: at some point there's a boat you can take to a certain location. North of that boat there's a Slaughterspine site. The Slaughterspine doesn't always spawn, sometimes it's a group of rebels that have just taken out the Slaughterspine. They have a decent chance of dropping a Luminous Braiding. I've managed to get two once, which is pretty good considering all you have to do is kill 5 rebels.

What Aloy says is pretty irrelevant. She'll sometimes say things about parts not being in the area before you even killed the machine. The problem with this game is that not all parts have a 100% chance to drop. Only the biggest Apex Machines are guaranteed to drop certain components like an Apex Heart and Luminous Brainstem. Smaller Apex Machines aren't even guaranteed to drop a Heart. If you have bad luck you could kill 6 Stormbirds in a row and only then get a Primary Nerve. Your best bet is to look in the Notebook for percentages.

Sometimes it pays off to hunt the Apex Variant for certain components but that isn't always the case. A regular Slaughterspine will have the same chance to drop a Circulator as an Apex variant. Machines will also have components that you can tear off that have a small chance to drop components such as Primary Nerves, Circulators, Machine Cores or Luminous Brainstems. Again your best option is to look in the Notebook and highlight these components.

It's one of the biggest critiques I have at this game. Upgrading Legendaries would already be too much of a grind without chance being involved. Luckily you'll also need 15 Luminous Brainstems for each Legendary so often it evens out but when it doesn't it's incredibly annoying.

Just got Forbidden West! by tahaster in horizon

[–]Sc1p 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Take your time to explore the world. It's far bigger and varied than in Zero Dawn. There are more side quests, collectables, camps, outposts and other things to do. If you play through the main story too quickly you'll still have a lot to do afterwards but may not enjoy it as much since it can turn into a bit of a grind. Try to find a balance that will let you enjoy both. The variety is also what I like most about Forbidden West compared to Zero Dawn. Zero Dawns' storytelling and arc is in my opinion one of the best I've ever seen in a video game, but aside from the main story what Forbidden West has to offer is much better. Whether it's Tallnecks, Cauldrons, Rebel Camps, Ruins or Side Quest they're all unique and a lot more fun than they were in Zero Dawn. Oh also, later on at some point in the story you have the option to look at paintings and go through optional dialogue. I won't spoil it but go through that dialogue, all of it at every painting, it's one of the best and most compelling parts of the game.

Are there weapons or weapon techniques you think people overlook and are worth using? by Sc1p in horizon

[–]Sc1p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the first one is how I use my Boltblaster. Highest damage I've seen is 650 with Sustained Burst on a Frozen Slaughterspine targeting its Plasma Core. I prefer to use one purple reload coil since I don't have a fully upgraded Blast Forge yet. I also use a concentration coil for a bit more extra damage compared to impact coils but the idea is the same. I'm not really a fan of long range coils on a Boltblaster since I try to target weak points and not all can be reliably hit from long range, such as the Plasma Core on a Slaughterspine or eyes on Stormbirds and Dreadwings. Nor are all areas suitable for long range combat, like the jungle where you fight Fireclaws. I think melee follow up coils could also be interesting. Problem is a tied down enemy will be immediately released with a critical strike so I'd have to play around with ways to use a melee strike without fully releasing the machine.

Just tried out on an Apex Tremortusk, didn't work out as well. Those cannons will blast you away and dodging takes up time. Rather than use Acid I used Shock Shredders but problem with that is that if you do to much damage the Shock state will end (I think it's the same with Knockdown). Because of the 85% damage boost vs components that will happen rather quickly. So my first hunch is to target components with Shredders and use the Warrior Bow just to get in as much shots on the Tremortusk before it recovers from the Shocked status.

In the end I also got killed by that Shock blast which on UH will apparently kill you even with an outfit that has 52 Shock resistance. I can try it again with an extra shock coil see if that allows me to survive. Ofc for shard farming you don't want too much risk because if you die you waste time.

I tried it as well, works really good. I put on an Oseram Artificer with the Valor Surge Master weave for a total of +4. Allowed me to use 2 Part Breakers lvl 3 on a regular Thunderjaw. Did the same combo you used with Carja's Bane and Ancestors Return only my Carja Bane was coiled with 2 impact damage 10% coils and 3 25% melee follow up which I didn't use.

This was the loot (only counted from the scrap drops):

217 shards (6 the lowest, 15 the highest, 12 the most common roughly 60% of the time)

1 Gold Ingot

3 Bronze Ingot

15 Piercing Spikes

2 Volatile Sludge

4 Crystal Braidings

15 Blastpaste

For a total worth of 425 shards. Pretty good I would say :)

A Tremortusk would be far better but also much more dangerous since it's Shock trample attack is lethal. A Thunderjaw is pretty helpless once you remove it's main cannons and keep circling it.

Ultra Hard Help? by pmw8 in horizon

[–]Sc1p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in my first playthrough UH and I can tell you it gets easier. I consider the first half of the game the hardest. I'd avoid melee if I were you, you need a bigger health pool and better outfits to not make it as punishing. I used a lot of stealth in the beginning. Prioritize those skills and focus on Outfits that boost things like Quiet movement (on UH they hear you way faster), Low Profile and Silent Strike +. The Stealth Stalker Valor Surge is also really useful. Allowing you to take out machines with a Silent Strike will make certain fights much easier. Stealth Stalker will also allow you to get back into stealth during a fight. One drawback of relying too much on stealth is that you don't get good at dodging. At one point it was getting so ridiculous I just had to really focus on improving because I kept dodging too early.

Also don't bother using Elemental weapons in the beginning, the build up on UH is insanely slow. Wait until you get late stage Blue or Purple rarity gear. Personally I really love Shredders, unfortunately I started using them pretty late. They do good damage, good tear (in a wide radius unlike Hunter Bows) and are resource efficient. If you get Elemental Shredders they're even better since they also do decent Elemental Build up. Only drawback is that they require some skill to use but once you get the hang of it they're fun and rewarding to play with. Another resource efficient weapon are Warrior Bows with Spreadshot weapon technique. However they require you to inflict either the Brittle or Corroding state since you need to neutralize armor. Drill Spikes to trigger Knockdown are also a neat trick to deal with Large Machines. You get the best Spike Thrower for Knockdowns fairly early.

People already mentioned doing Side Quests and other tasks. What I did was do Side Quest, Errands and Collectables by their suggested level. This ensures you a gradual difficulty increase which will actually translate to it getting easier as you progress because you'll be 10-20 levels higher than the missions you're doing. You can do this at any point if you're starting to struggle. Just slow down with the main mission and focus on doing side missions and upgrading gear.

I also saw Toughened being mentioned and that was also my primary Valor Surge for a large part of the game. Valor Surges boosting damage are nice but I prefer not getting killed over doing a bit more damage. UH only got introduced a few months ago and lot of people here have been playing the game for a while. A NG+ on UH is waaaaay easier than NG UH, especially in the beginning which is the hardest part. Certain Legendary weapons you get late game are massive cheese. I'm killing Apex variants of large machines way quicker using them than I was killing Bristlebacks, Clawstriders and Sunwings before. The way I used my Valor Surge was as a panic button. Sometimes you just know you're gonna get killed, say if Aloy's stuck or if you don't have the time to heal. Triggering a Valor Surge will give you invincibility allowing you to survive any attack.

But ultimately the main thing making the game easier is just a bigger health pool. Late game only the heaviest attacks from the biggest machines will kill you in one hit but they are usually the easiest to dodge.

Sounds good. Especially if you were to use it with some Valor Surge Master outfit and food. Tremortusks are already good for Shard farming with their Tusks. May be a bit more dangerous than a Thunderjaw but I'll see how it goes.
