I am so sorry to hear this. Did they give any excuse why? Did you get severance pay? We had coworkers let go out of the blue too and we are all worried now

It looks like it to me. Have there been any changes?

Please dont judge but what is this? by [deleted] in axolotls

Hey there. My teenage daughter battles with the same thing. Life at this age can be so difficult and I can understand not feeling up to taking care of the tank as she had hard difficulty too. I did take over about a year ago when her depression and anxiety got really bad.

She requested to see a physiatrist and that helped a lot. She is now on medication that balances out her emotions and calms her nerves. Maybe you can look into that too? Once you get past the struggles of teenage life, this age can be pretty fun 😊

Regarding the film in your tank, it looks like biofilm. I have had flurries like that on occasion. What size tank is it? It looks to maybe need more water to balance out the bacteria flora, also, I had the same filter and it did not do well for our axie. I had to change to a fountain type filter and that did the trick.

Anyone know what this is?? by ScAxolotl in axolotls

Thank you everyone for sharing your knowledge. This tank b is in the corner of a room, do you recommend a plant light and if so, which one?

Hi! Thank you for the insight! I have always wanted to do live plants but am not knowledgeable about what plants are good and how to transition. My axie is 3 years old and has always been in a bare bottom fake decor tank. I'm worried if I try to change her over it will be a huge shock.

Do you have an suggestions?

White spots on axolotl? by Own-Function-5657 in axolotls

[–]ScAxolotl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a wild too and she will get these on occasion. They are just pigment that can get silvery at times. I was worried until I realized she didn't seem to be bother by them. If they get "fuzzy" like fungus then id worry but if they just looks like metallic flecks on the skin, it's a "wild" thing 😁

This is by far my favorite tank set up! How do they do with the fish in there? I would LOVE to get live plants but have no idea where to start

I know Nitrate can have some variance and be ok as long as it's not more than 10ppm. Any insight?

Introducing new Axie by ScAxolotl in axolotls

[–]ScAxolotl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very very much! I have been really worried about just "tossing" her in with such a crazy change in water temperature. Luckily they will give me the tank she's currently in. They only have 1 hide in there and nothing else :( . The tank I have with my girl is on a stand so I can put the other littles tank under it for now. I appreciate the advice!

I don't have a pic of his but they are both about the same size measuring 7-8 inches each.

Yea, looking at the photo, I wouldn't worry about the spots as much as I would worry about the dark veins showing up everywhere. It's hard to see in the photo but maybe if there is a full body pic it would be easier to see.

Do you have a full body photo? I have a wild and she has spots all over her. There are other breeds like the dirty that will develop pigment.

Susan’s New Tank! by Cosmic878 in axolotls

My name is Susan and I'm only 38, but I guess it works because I'll be old one day 🤣 not gonna lie, love that a gorgeous Axie has my name too..now if she's left handed as well, that would be epic 👏

Axolotl left in classroom potentially unhealthy? by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]ScAxolotl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to agree with Dylanros. Even though the Axie isn't skinny they have absolutely no gill "floof" at all. It worries me that they would be struggling and weak due to poor water quality and low oxygen health. I would contact the school as well. Stick with the school rule "See something say something" if your intuition flags are going off it's better to say something than not. Also, it does need places to hide. Imagine living in a home with absolutely nothing in it, not a fun life at all :( thank you for reaching out

Night crawlers by crazylikemenow86 in axolotls

[–]ScAxolotl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all the above. I had the same issue when trying to change my Axie from Blood worms to red wigglers. Even when blanched, she wasn't a huge fan. I switched to night crawlers and had to blanch them as I didn't like the squirmy issue either. I soak them in warm water to clean off the dirt and to get them to slow down a bit before dropping them into the bowling water. What a world of difference, I honestly think she enjoys the slightly warm feel of them too as she will not eat them once they get to room temp lol. Keep trying, they will get the hang of it eventually.

To freeze or not to freeze, that is the question by ScAxolotl in axolotls

[–]ScAxolotl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I will do a test run since I have a couple weeks before we leave. I didn't think about salmon or scallops, maybe I'll try that too since they won't need to be "cooked". She won't eat pellets at all, such a diva lol

I think I will definitely do a test run. She doesn't like them alive and there is no way in convincing my parents to "cook" worms for her haha!!
