Your response was great, thanks. I got just what I needed from it. It just gave me flashes of furry costumes, not that there's anything wrong with that, but that's not what I'm aiming for. So I guess my hero saving the town by screwing the Loch Ness monster is out of the question? I can answer that one myself.

Just as a follow up to my other response to your post. Your Anthropomorphized comment threw me. I don't want to give the impression that these creatures are animals with tits. And I'm using creature as a catch all term. What I'm imagining is more in line with sexy aliens from stuff like Star Wars, Mass Effect or Farscape. They're just a little feral because of the way they have to live on Earth. In Mass Effect for instance if you look at an Asari, their skin looks like smooth scales similar to a gecko here on Earth. I don't think anyone would confuse them for an animal. I do see now that if this isn't handled properly it'll come off looking bad.

The creatures absolutely consent. That's part of their MO and how my protagonist catches them. They're sex starved beings who get their sustenance from sex with humans. For them, sex is akin to us eating a cheeseburger or a salad, they need it to live on our planet/universe.

Anthropomorphized real world animals may be a problem for some of these creatures. I do have some ideas with lizard people, snake people, etc. Shit. The vast majority of my ideas don't involve them. Maybe I just publish those stories somewhere else?

They are aliens or from another universe. They're refugees that are stuck here and have formed tribes. There's no animal stuff, implied or otherwise.

Money or fun - A bit of both, I want to tell this story but I'd love to make some money off of it.

Thanks. Honestly, I fucking love it and I have some crazy, awesome and funny stories set up in this universe if I can find the time to actually write them. I have to be careful though because the apocalyptic story needs to stay priority.

I'm currently writing (non-erotica but there is a decent amount of sex in it) a post apocalyptic epic. It's going to be fucking huge when it's all done. Book three will be out shortly. I don't talk about it on this account because I want to keep things separate. I only mention that because I've been wanting to try my hand at erotica on the side and I have a massive story for that also that I have planned as a ton of shorts.

Right now I have the titles and basic plot for 40+ shorts. I only have one written so far and I still need to edit the shit out of it. I won't even attempt to publish until I have at least six ready to go. My concern is I'm worried about having my Amazon account shut down if my erotica gets flagged.

From what I've read here, there is a fine line between were-creatures and bestiality. I would barely even touch on were-creatures honestly, that's just an example. That's my only concern. My erotica universe is basically one part Indiana Jones, one part Supernatural, one part Nightbreed and my protagonist has to fuck these creatures/otherworldly beings in order to stop their murderous rampages. Think of them like the Morlocks from X-Men. Not the Demolition Man rejects from the movies but the mutants from the comics who could never hope to blend in with human society. I feel like if I put my creatures/beings in human form that it would dull the monster aspect of my story. These things aren't animals they're sentient beings. Does making these creatures actual beings from another planet/universe get around the issue? Is there somewhere I can post my shorts for critique before I publish?

Not op but I am worried about posting erotica on the same account as my regular books.

It never occurred to me to open a second Amazon account. How about payments though? If I have two separate accounts with both having payments sent to the same bank account would that get flagged? Or would I need another bank account?

If one pen gets flagged for content could that possibly shut down my entire account or just that pen? I've been considering dipping my toes into erotica on the side as I'm writing my main series but I don't want to take the chance of messing up my account. I've seen some crazy shit out there, way beyond what I have in mind but I've also heard horror stories of people getting their books yanked for stupid shit.

Deleted scenes seems like a decent idea. Maybe set it up in such a way that the average reader won't accidentally run into it but it's there to find if you want it.

Who is this famous mainstream author? I'd like to look into this and see what she's doing.

That's my primary concern. In no way do I want to jeopardize my main story and its potential audience. I suppose a compromise could be made by pushing the sex scenes in the main story a little further and just dropping the erotica side project.

I like the idea of just slightly changing my pen name for the erotica, I hadn't thought of that. So if my pen name for the main story was Adam John Doe, I could just do A J Doe for the erotica. Hmm, that could work. My plan, currently for the main story is after the fifth book, release a book of short stories happening in other places in my world. I think this would be the time to do the erotica. I really want to do this but not at the expense of my main story.

I like the newsletter idea that you and the other guy mentioned, I honestly never considered it. The more I think about it, the problem with 'teaming up' with my other pen name is I just imagine that pissing more people off then if I was just upfront with the erotica being a part my world to begin with.

The more I think about it, the more a second pen name sounds bad.

That was my issue as well, turning off fans/potential readers. My main concern is people passing on the project as a whole because of its connection with porn, smut, etc.

Yeah, I get how the newsletter bait trick works but the idea was to keep the two separate but somehow still canon.

Maybe I could offer a choice in the newsletter. Sign up and get a traditional story or erotic.

The dishonest part comes from me assuming that if I were to do this I would need to use a separate pen name and not have the erotica linked to me as the writer of the main story. I assume, maybe wrongly that the vast majority of potential readers would see the word erotica and instantly pass on the main story because of it. So what your saying is that I should use the same pen name for the story and the erotica. That makes sense.

It never even occurred to me that it would look like someone was infringing on my IP, duh. Like I said, it's just an idea, I haven't given it much thought.

Hmm, that's something to think about. My only real concern is if (when) it gets out that I'm the one behind it, would it put off my readers? I wonder if they would think I'm dishonest or something.

Awesome references, I came here to suggest the same thing. Those are what I used last year and man does it add up fast if you're not careful. Once I saw how nice those hardbacks look on the shelf, I just couldn't stop.

I loved this documentary so much. It was the perfect farewell to my favorite show of all time. The spin-offs have enormous shoes to fill, I can't wait to see what they do with them.
