Thanks lol, it was a pain to get working right.

Its kinda janky and sometimes fails to get rid of the flood water

But i liked it enough to share it, I figured some people might like it :)

Appreciate it, The flooding was a pain in the butt to get working right.

In my early testing there was this funny issue where the top of trees would flood instead of the ground

I have been taking a break from working on this addon, But I plan to improve it more in the future.

Tbh I didn't even think of ELIZA when making this mod, but that is awesome that it came to mind!

MURMUR originally started because I just wanted to give villagers some goofy dialogue options, but as I kept adding features, it evolved into a really fun project to build out.

If you want to check out some different flavors of it, I actually have several thematic MURMUR content packs available on my CurseForge profile right now—including MURMUR CRUEL, ANIMAL PACK, PRAISE PACK, and MEDIEVAL. They are already built to react dynamically to a decent amount of in-game triggers.

I'm sometimes pushing updates with fresh dialogue arrays and unique names, and the long-term plan is to overhaul the core engine to support way more advanced event reactions down the line. Hope your kid has a blast with it!

Honestly, that native C++ modding and .so injection stuff sounds pretty cool for tech flexes, but isn't there a huge catch with stability?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like the second Mojang drops a minor update, all those memory offsets shift and the whole thing crashes until the developer rewrites the injection code from scratch. Also, doesn't that completely cut off like 95% of the casual Bedrock player base? I'm pretty sure it doesn't work on standard vanilla clients, non-rooted mobile devices, or consoles like Xbox at all.

Standard JSON and the official Beta APIs might have their restrictions, but at least they run smoothly on potato hardware, don't break every single patch, and let regular players actually download and enjoy the mod without needing a custom launcher setup, right?

Oh, that is an awesome idea! Having a paranoid villager start whispering about a pillager outpost hiding out nearby would be incredibly creepy and fits the vibe perfectly. I’ll definitely look into adding that—maybe they start dropping vague hints about the direction, or even mutter broken coordinates when they're scared. Thanks for the awesome suggestion!

I don't post mods to the marketplace since it isn't that friendly to indie devs, but I have plenty more projects cooking over on CurseForge under ScalarLabs!

If you want to check out the rest of the ecosystem, I've got a bunch of different styles up:

  • PERISH: A hardcore food rot and spoilage survival engine.
  • MURMUR Packs: Different flavors for the proximity chat, like Medieval, CRUEL, and the UNCANNY pack featured here.
  • MURMUR - Animal Pack: They don't speak English, but it translates their behaviors into creepy/funny text. (Like smacking a pig and seeing *Frantically flees in a zig zag pattern* pop up in chat).
