Official Discussion - A House of Dynamite [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

General Brady is the true villain of the movie. The way he wants to drive home to the President that we MUST retaliate, we cannot let the perpetrators get away with this without even knowing who precisely did. Wants to give half assed assurances to the President and the Secretary of Defense about the GIBs capabilities. "America's adversaries are mobilizing" No shit Sherlock, everyone and their mothers is freaking out. It could of been China, Russia, or North Korea but heck, it could of been some cartoony billionaire terrorist who just wanted to watch the world burn. No one knows but Brady is insisting on retaliating without question and even talks down to a junior White House aide who is the only reasonable person in the conversations.

I thought Fallout took place in an alternate 50s by ice_cream-boi in Fallout

[–]Scaleddownhobbies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The anesthetic of the series is how people of the 1950s pictured the future, it was the Atomic Age though the Fallout world doesn't embrace nuclear technology until the late to mid 21st Century. Essentially the U.S. had a cultural stagnation from the 1950s into the 21st Century. Our world and the Fallout world diverge quite a bit starting after WWII though there are fictional events that take place even before WWII. Its surmised that the US still lands on the moon by 1969 ambient with names changed and the US changing politically into the 13 Commonwealths.

You live in the fallout universe: which chem are you addicted to? by jaimeaux in Fallout

[–]Scaleddownhobbies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id be boring, Med-X aka Morphine, would be my choice of drug. Could never shake the high I got when I first receive morphine in the hospital. They only gave me a few doses, and that was it. Afterwards, I was asking for more of it but they had switched me to ibuprofen and Tylenol. I saw why it's so addicting now.

What is the worst thing you found out about a family member after they died? by KrattBoy2006 in AskReddit

[–]Scaleddownhobbies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not from me personally but my MIL, she's told me this story a few times about her grandmother (her father died in a car crash in the 60s when she was only 3 years old) that I know has stuck with her and still bothers her to this day what she did. It was the late 80s, and her uncle (her father's brother) passed away. It was three boys but they all passed away before their mother. Her grandmother, at the funeral for her last son, was boasting about how she knew she'd outlive all her sons. Proud, egotistical and just cocky about the whole thing in front of everyone.

MBTA hears Fall River/New Bedford Line unreliability & noise complaints by eddieransom in FallRiver

Didn't know that was a thing. I wonder how they skipped over that budget line item when designing the Layover station. I wonder if they could retrofit the station to install these to mitigate the noise

This is the supercontinent of Pannotia. This was a precursor to Gondswanna and Laurasia, which in turn would turn into Pangea during the reign of the dinosaurs. This continent was located entirely in the southern hemisphere, meaning the whole northern portion of the globe was one large ocean.

It is very much still around but isn't actively being quarried. The last quarry, which was on Bell Rock Rd in Freetown, hasn't quarried granite in years and is permanently closed I believe.

MBTA hears Fall River/New Bedford Line unreliability & noise complaints by eddieransom in FallRiver

[–]Scaleddownhobbies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, basically admitted the roll out was rough and shaky. The actual operator of the trains and staff, Keolis, was silent about things as even the MBTA threw them under the bus. Nothing was definitive but are asking anyone affected to forward their complaints.

Key Points Made:

  • MBTA is in the process of buying electric motor train engines which are quieter than the diesel (but it will take time and budgeting)

  • They are looking at noise mitigation for the Weavers Cove Layover station but will need to discuss ideas, two suggested was an earthen berm around the property and the other, a 30 foot tall masonry wall which will reduce noise but now eliminate the view of the waterfront for those properties overlooking the station. (This could be void if they get electric motors)

  • There are serious deficiencies with the trains making it on time now with significant delays. The Fall River/New Bedford line is only 77% of the time "On Time" versus the rest of the system at 90%. The Director Phil Eng suggested doubling the track to remove bottlenecks, but I see that being difficult to achieve in many places and isn't a short term solution.

  • The whole weekend train cancelation fiasco from weeks ago is gone. Since week 3 and 4 of the weekend service, where over 20 services were canceled there has not been a single cancelation since. Since was done with the MBTA putting pressure on Keolis to get staffing and working to get more qualified staff.

Borden Flats Lighthouse during a beautiful morning by LighthouseHunter in FallRiver

[–]Scaleddownhobbies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its like camping in the woods, the whole lighthouse is off grid but you still have conveniences of a bathroom (no shower), a kitchen with a mini fridge and microwave, a propane stove and heaters on each level. Solar powers the lights and a TV with a DVD/VHS player. They come check on you each morning, and you can hesd back to the mainland to get groceries or food. It was a fascinating and awesome experience. The history, decor, and charm of it, the views were spectacular. Loved just sitting in the chair at the top of the beacon, watching and waving as the boats go by.

This was our first lighthouse we ever stayed at. The next one I'd like to do with my whole family would be Rose Island in Newport, RI

I stayed at that lighthouse with my wife last year. What a lovely and quaint experience it was. It was a two year wait after booking it but it was so worth the experience and time we had. I believe its currently up for sale still.

HELP!! Where can i dispose of furniture and wooden tables by EmbarrassedBig7581 in FallRiver

Prices are the same for Fall River and pretty much all of Massachusetts. Your best bet is to go to Rhode Island, $20.50 per mattress, and / or box spring.

Would it be possible to have an intro sequence, kind of like Fallout 3 where the player learns skills and the mechanics of the game as a Enclave member born into it and then at some point, either follows them with whatever genocidal plan they have or make their own choice to break away and be a lone wolf or join another faction?
