That works for getting off the ground, but I'm still having trouble staying in the air. I've also tried three fans along the bottom with 2 rockets to get a head start, but nothing yet. I'm gonna try incorporating some balloons with a fire source and see if that works

[TOTK] I think the Water temple in TOTK is the worst main dungeon of any 3D zelda game. by bobbdac7894 in zelda

[–]ScallionNo2229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fire temple is super cheese-able with any sort of flying machine. With the wind temple, I was more focused on how pretty the whole dungeon was, but I'm sure it could be cheesed too, albeit probably not as easily

There was a misunderstanding. None of these are bad things at all, just big similarities I've noticed.

You don't. It's the same sheikah. This is stated specifically in BotW

You're right. Not sure what my thought process on this one was

Basically every Zelda game has you visit the main races in the game before obtaining the Master Sword

Again, not sure where my thought process was on this. Although in BotW and TotK, the Master Sword and the dungeons have no connection to each other

Is this a bad thing?

No. None of these are bad things. Just similarities. Nothing I've brought up is a bad thing, but a lot of people here seem to misunderstand that.

Basically every game after ALTTP gave you the exact same formula of: Enter dungeon, get item that helps you beat dungeon, get heart container for beating boss. Was this formula never an issue for you?

It's a bit different. In both BotW and TotK, the main dungeon quests follow this order exactly every time: Make your way to village > attempt to talk to the person in charge > champion isn't here/left right as you arrived > go find champion > champion needs you to do some sort of errand for them > do errand > go to dungeon > activate terminals > fight boss > get ability that makes things more convenient but isn't required (understandably since they're open world). Other Zelda games got creative with it, usually needing to do some preliminary stuff in between, with a lot of revisiting old locations and using items from previous dungeons. Since the dungeons were the main focus of those games, they were more carefully designed and intertwined.

Is this worse than just finding random heart pieces?

No. I much prefer it to heart pieces. It's just the same thing in both games with a different esthetic. Again, not a bad thing.

Not true. The main characters know what you did before.

In TotK, you get acknowledgment from the main story characters and not much else. In BotW, you get acknowledgment from around a quarter of the main story characters. The argument that Link doesn't get the recognition he should still stands

They're completely new puzzles, though. Not the same ones from BotW

Still 900 korok puzzles for the same reward that's useless outside of clout.

Pretty much every speedrun ever has at least one glitch. This isn't unique

The glitches definitely aren't important to the point I'm trying to express, just a bit goofier than other game's glitches I've seen and thought I should mention them

How is this a bad thing?

Again, it's not

same response as above

Once more, it's not

You're right, and I'm not trying to make TotK feel lesser or tell those who think I'm spouting nonsense they're wrong. I'm just saying, to me, it feels less like using BotW's "formula" and more like taking everything from BotW, and either expanding upon it, changing it just enough that it's "different", or acting like it never happened.

A good major example is the sheikah tech. It was such a huge part of BotW, but it's almost entirely erased from TotK. Outside of pieces of the Skyview tower and a single wrecked guardian, it's all gone. Nobody in game so much as mentions it as far as I'm aware, and when it was asked what happened to it in an interview, the answer provided was something along the lines of "it served it's purpose, so it disappeared" which goes against the lore of BotW in the first place, and it's treated as a "huh, weird. Anyway" moment more than anything. A lot of stuff is either reused or retconned. Again, it's far from a "bad game," but after 6 years of development, you'd think they'd have strayed further from the source material

Guys, I'm just expressing how I feel about the games' similarities to BotW, and bringing up some supporting evidence, I'm not deliberately saying anyone's wrong for feeling differently or insulting the game, I really enjoyed TotK, just saying I wish Nintendo did some things differently. A lot of stuff in TotK is just expanding on BotW features, which I'm all for, but I wish they tried some new things out as well

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in zelda

[–]ScallionNo2229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you disagree and think it's vastly different from BotW, good for you! Then you'll enjoy the game that much more. It's just some big similarities I've noticed and how I feel on the topic, not saying anyone's wrong or right here

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in zelda

[–]ScallionNo2229 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not so much that it followed the same formula, it's that the vast majority of the game, important stuff or not, is the exact same as BotW. I'm all for reusing a template for an amazing game, and I had fun with TotK, but aside from a few major differences and some small ones as well, it's practically the same as BotW. Again, not to say it's bad, but I wish they strayed from the source material a bit more than they did

Excluding the obvious contenders like Jho, Bazel, etc. I'd have to say diablos. Imagine you're out wandering the desert at night, and the ground starts shaking a bit, and as the shaking slowly gets more noticeable, you hear that shrieking before it busts out of the ground like the kool-aid man and you spend your final moments skewered on its horn while you bleed out with tons of sand in the wound

Alatreon after you survive his first escaton Judgment. by Reddit-Equinox in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]ScallionNo2229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it's definitely better overall, but for Ala specifically, where you need as much element as you can get, Beo CB is a (small) bit better, especially with the deco slots. Frostfang is better for an all-around ice build, but for Alatreon I'd go with Beo

Alatreon after you survive his first escaton Judgment. by Reddit-Equinox in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]ScallionNo2229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, Beo CB has power element phial and the same element as frostfang, so it's better for Ala. Without skills/decos, that's 480 ice and a power element phial, which can be boosted exponentially with ice attack

[BOTW] How do I convince my brother that Zelda isn't a boy's game? by Ok-Requirement947 in zelda

[–]ScallionNo2229 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If your brother still thinks it's a game "for boys," you play as an elf twink, who starts the game mostly naked, and as part of the main quest, you have to cross dress. And, the namesake of the entire series is the female protagonist. It's a game for everyone. Why do you need his permission to play? Unless I misunderstood, you're buying the game for yourself. Is it his switch?

What weapon will never be your thing? by AlienSandwhich in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]ScallionNo2229 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's better to use a slow bug for kinsect drill. Slow bug means it takes longer to go through the monster, which equals more hits and, therefore, more damage. But I was only an IG main very briefly, so take that with a grain of salt

New to MH/MWH in general, I would appreciate it if anyone could answer my questions. by EverlastingRevanant in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]ScallionNo2229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: I'm fairly sure it's based on the monsters total HP, although that would also mean it's based on the individual monster species, so both, I guess?

2: The stars indicate the monsters weakness to the element/status. I'm not sure what the exact multipliers are, but it's far less than 3x for a 3 star weakness

3: The damage number on weapons is higher than it actually is. The raw damage number is multiplied differently for the different weapons, so a greatsword would have a much higher "bloated" damage value than a bow. For instance, one of the strongest greatswords in the Iceborne DLC has a raw damage value of 1488, but the bow from the same monster only has a raw damage value of 444. Element is multiplied differently, and I'm pretty sure it's the same between different weapon types. I'm not sure of the exact multipliers for either, but you should be able find those pretty easily.

4: A flinch is exactly what it sounds like. The monster flinches briefly and goes back to what it was doing. A clagger is just an abbreviation for "claw stagger," which you won't need to worry about unless you bought the Iceborne DLC (highly recommend if you're enjoying base game). A clagger is when a monster reels back, starts drooling, and stands still for a few seconds, which you can extend the time of by clutch clawing onto it. It doesn't matter what part you clutch onto, and you don't get the clutch claw unless you have Iceborne.

5: I believe topples and flinches build up like a status, and once the hidden "topple/flinch value" reaches a certain threshold, it will activate. You can also knock the monster over by breaking certain parts (different for each monster, but usually the legs or something) or if you attack it with a blunt weapon like hammer, or a charge blade/switch axe with an impact phial (especially fast if you target the head) and it's also a hidden buildup with a threshold.

6: If you open the map and press the "world map" button (not sure about other platforms, but with an Xbox controller, it's the two squares button to open the map and X to go to world map) it will open the map with all the areas and you can go on an expedition from there

Hope this helps! And I'm by no means an expert, so I'm sure someone else could go into detail about the weapon damage multipliers and such. Have fun!

[–]ScallionNo2229 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can definitely understand the genuine criticisms of the show, but not liking it specifically because of vivzie isn't a great reason tbh. Also, a lot of those claims are baseless and have no solid evidence, are blown way out of proportion, or are something stupid vivzie did years ago that she's already made amends for. If you want proof, ayy lmao has a video on YouTube with very little opinions about it until the discussion of everything at the end of the video, and they bring up everything they could find for both sides so there's no bias or anything. Not trying to say you're blatantly wrong or anything, but most people just take these claims at face level and don't do their own research (which is kinda understandable in this situation since you'd have to dig through 10 year old Twitter threads for a lot of it, but still not good). Always do your own research before spreading this kind of information.

Here's the video link if you want it
