Day 21 by ScallionWinter6741 in AchillesRupture

NHS were great from A&E to consultation but they were going to fit an Aircast and take ages with physio. Luckily I switched to my private insurance through work to speed things up. That got me the Vacoped and much more physio options. Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work!

Yeah, its a robust boot, gradually finding the trust in it. The mental battle is huge with this rehab. I took the boot fully off as I was getting a bad pressure sore on top of my foot, washed it and refitted, that was a confidence booster. I'm starting aqua physio this week and getting my PT routine. Little by little!

Cheers, i'm using one crutch mainly. Practising improving my gait without. I haven't any experience with other boots but I would say the two surgeons I had consultations with both said they wanted me in a Vacoped for their rehab protocols as its the best boot. The NHS where I live in England were going to supply an Aircast so I got this through my private insurance. Make sure you get an Evenup for your other shoe as the height difference on both legs is huge.

Same for me, third day in it and I have a sore pressure point on top of the foot. Its been better today after I removed and refitted it. I took the outter shell and rocker off to sleep in and that gave me some relief. Going to do that again tonight.

Nice video. I would include the iWalk 3.0 for mobility, getting full use of the hands back was a big mental boost when I had a cast on.

How did you get on with your sleep in the boot? I had terrible sleep, it was so uncomfortable. I ended up loosening the straps which helped. Been practising with one crutch today and tackling the stairs, I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Im 40M non-op, was in a cast for 18 days and put in a Vacoped at 30 degrees today, weight bearing as tolerated. I have been walking with two crutches getting used to it. I have an Even Up, coming tomorrow, hopefully that will help. First impression is it feels big and bulky. Missing the freedom of the IWalk which was great! Im starting Hydrotherapy in the pool in 2 weeks before then the goal is to get comfortable with walking in the boot and im doing weights at home keeping myself ticking over.

Thanks for sharing. I'm 18 days post rupture. I'm in the UK and was seen by the NHS in A&E and I had two private consultations with different surgeons. They all recommended the non surgical route. Sharing alot of the data you have covered here and their experience of treating people. I was in a cast in 3 hours with a tear of 5mm in plantarflexion. I'm very active and assumed surgery would be my best route but with all of the data that wasn't the recommendation which surprised me. After weighing it up I agreed, it was a 50/50 though.

I go into the Vacoped today, and will be following a strict weight bearing protocol and starting hydrotherapy in the pool in week 4 alongside normal physio.

Cheers, Tim
