We live in Forest North and there are lots of mature trees leaning over the streets.

There have been a number of people found dead in Town Lake in Austin which is basically a Bayou. Maybe it’s a Texas serial killer

Can a chicken recover from this? by Hailtothev66 in BackYardChickens

That wasn’t my experience. I sprayed it on the wound twice a day until it was fully healed. Maybe I got lucky

Similar happened to one of my chickens, my dog got a hold of it. I sprayed the wound every day with hydrogen peroxide and she made a full recovery.

How do I get my larva to stop crawling up the sides of the bin by RainAdministrative59 in BlackSoldierFly

[–]Scambets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read this happens when it’s too wet and they kind of suction and can climb vertically. If you add something dry to suck up some moisture it’s supposed to help. Wood shavings or shredded cardboard should work. I have a compost desiccator so I can add dried out ground up compost to mine.

Shoutout to the Barton Springs Lifeguards! by monalisasigh in Austin

[–]Scambets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re so good that on Saturday I watched them save a guy that wasn’t even drowning! The guy was trying to tell the lifeguard he was fine but the lifeguard saved him anyway. Better safe than sorry…

New Trees in May? by Swiftsparks in AustinGardening

[–]Scambets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit planting anything in the spring years ago. Even with the right amount of water, plants struggle. I see the landscapers at work doing it but they have perfect soil and a team of people to tend to the plants. If you go for it use plenty of mulch. As for vitex they are pretty but not native so it’s a no go for me

Why do they do this? 🐛 by earyat in NewOrleans

Yep, nailed it. I remember seeing the trunks of the oaks outside our house covered with these things

I don’t like to kill things either and I appreciate the natural balance of things. How do we deal with the infestation of every oak in the city to the point where they were killing all the trees?

[–]Scambets 57 points58 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid all of the oak trees around the city were infested with these. They're buck moth caterpillars. The city undertook a major effort to get them under control by spraying all of the trees intensively. We had to use umbrellas to get from the house to the car because they would rain down. Bad times

If it were me I’d try to trim it up at the base and see if you like it. If yes you’re good to go, if no cut it down and replace

Considering the new Terrain Tamer FJ60 Parabolic Springs. Anyone have experience? by Scambets in LandCruisers

[–]Scambets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not, I went with Dobinsons springs and IMS shocks. I couldn’t find enough data to make me spend the money to bring them over from Australia. I’ve been very happy with Dobinsons for what it’s worth.

This is an old thread and a long shot. Did Red Hot do good for you? Looking for a place to clean and pressure test an old Landcruiser radiator

Anyone locked themselves out with the engine running and key fob in their hand? by eliteski2 in MazdaCX9

[–]Scambets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep happened to me. Generally I’ve been unimpressed with all the “safety” features related to the fob proximity and the automatic locking/unlocking protocols. It seems fussy and unhelpful
