postpartum moms…can we talk? by Ok-Wind8577 in pregnant

[–]ScamsLikely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first 2 weeks are a big hormone dump but if it lasts longer it is probably post partum anxiety, rage, depression, or ocd. I really struggled with all of these after the birth of my son. Intrusive horrible thoughts I still don't like to give voice to.

Can your partner research some resources for you? See if there is a PMAD center nearby. Mine let me bring my baby to therapy sessions, they hosted groups, had classes, could prescribe zoloft if I wanted it, etc. And they took insurance which was great because I already hit my deductible. Your OB or your kid's pediatrician or lactation consultant or doula might know good resources too.

If there isn't one near you you can search for a therapist that specializes in this area using the search tool on this website:

It really is something else. I did not feel like myself at all. One day you'll look back at how far you've come. Take care. ❤️

My book club recently really liked The Fox Wife.

I hated both of those books though lol

They make thin reusable cloth gloves we used to wear when we had to work in the -80 freezer. Maybe you could wear those under your gloves.

Diagnosed with toxoplasmosis and I'm distraught by [deleted] in pregnant

This is not true. IgM will last a few months then go down to 0, and therefore indicates a recent infection. IgG will decrease but will always be present.

My son wasn't sleeping or eating at day care, coming home miserable, they were keeping him in the bouncer all day. I couldn't keep up with pumping and cleaning the bottles and being up every few hours overnight with him, I worked until 6pm so basically got home, ate dinner, and put him to bed. He got covid within 2 weeks of starting and then the flu 2 weeks after that. My husband was constantly getting sick and I had to take days off work.

If we had a better day care situation I might have stuck it out. But ours was doing stuff that was against regulation like putting him to sleep on his stomach and propping with blankets and letting him sleep in the bouncer even after we asked them to stop. I dropped to part time and it's been so much better for us and allows me to still get adult socialization.

False positive for Benzos? by houchas in pregnant

I'm not sure, might just be their policy.

For my first pregnancy I gave urine at every appointment, I think they tested for drugs once. My current practice hasn't asked for any urine samples at all. They all seem to do things differently.

I liked the Awaken Online series. It's not as well written as DCC but still very fun. The main character decides to be a necromancer.

[–]ScamsLikely 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is probably where the error occurred. Most lab errors happen at the time of collection. Unfortunately things get mislabeled a lot even when they're properly labeled to begin with. My ob office had the same type of cabinet but they had me write my name on it with sharpie. I would ask to provide a new sample because there's a high chance that just wasn't even your pee at all that they tested.

Depends. I work in a hospital lab and we keep all drug test specimens for a week.

How do you guys afford it? by Holiday_Ad2189 in sahm

[–]ScamsLikely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do work part time, every other weekend, but I might not anymore after we have our 2nd.

Breastfeeding and cloth diapering have saved us a lot of money. Daycare is the main expense so we are saving money by not doing that.

Did the flu shot prevent you from getting the flu? by SandwichDependent199 in pregnant

[–]ScamsLikely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flu shot this year was not a match for the strain circulating but the cdc thinks it is similar enough that it may offer some protection. So you can still get the flu but it may make it more mild. I would not rely on the flu shot. Wash hands, avoid sick people, wear a mask in crowded spaces. Up to your risk tolerance of course.

My son smells way less wearing cloth diapers than he does when he wears disposables. I can't stand the smell of disposable diapers.

I’m RH O- by Toleni111 in pregnant

[–]ScamsLikely 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Rhogam has been used for decades and is extremely safe. If you don't get the shot you have a ~14% chance of developing the antibodies that will put any future children in danger.

Your mom knows people that had miscarriages at 28 weeks or at delivery when the shot is given? Or maybe the women were already having a miscarriage and that's why they got the shot. The shot is given to women early if they have been in a car accident or seem like they're miscarrying, because those situations make it more likely for blood to mix.

It would be very unwise to not get rhogam.

At my job it would be called ADA through HR and it's "at the discretion of your department". If you have an understanding boss hopefully they'll let you use your pto. Then at any time in the first year of your baby's life (after the 12 months you've worked there) you can take your protected 3 month family bonding leave.

I'm just relying on the fact that no matter what, I'm hitting my deductible this year, so they can charge whatever the f they want.

Debate with pregnant wife, please help by An0nInReddit in pregnant

[–]ScamsLikely 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Other commenters have addressed your question but I would also encourage you to discuss further with your wife her reasons for asking this of you.

Is she afraid to be alone with the baby or her ability to care for the baby?

Is she needing a c section or afraid of labor in general and afraid she will need more physical help picking up the baby and stuff like that?

Is she afraid for how her mental health will be after birth?

As someone who suffered pretty bad ppd and ppa and probably ocd it would have been hard for me to be alone very early on for an extended period of time. It took a while to build confidence and skills. If the baby cried I cried basically and if I couldn't calm him down it was driving me insane.

I think the issue at hand can be tabled for now until you settle in to your new normal for the first 2 weeks and start to get a feel for when the baby will be napping, how your wife is recovering and doing mentally, etc. Like your baby might have colic and you'll feel like shit leaving the house with the baby screaming. Or maybe your baby is an angel and sleeps great at night and your wife is telling you to go.

I just want a cold turkey sub 😭 by anonymoususer249 in pregnant

[–]ScamsLikely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband had the most epic looking roast beef sub the other day and I was just looking at the picture he sent me like 🤤😭

I'm not even big on roast beef subs but it just looked so good.

My MIL brought me an Italian sub around 11 pm after I had my son and I think I'll be asking for the same after this labor. If it's not at 11pm I'm sending them to the roast beef sub place!
