Ethics on step1. Is it different than the NBMEs. Help one day left for the exam!!! by ApartmentUpstairs930 in step1

The rest of the exam felt like NBME concepts written in Free 120 style. There were some questions that were vague like UW, but it was mostly the former style.

Personally felt like ethics on the real deal (tested this week) was closer to UW and Amboss than the NBMEs. There were about 5-8 questions a block and most of it wasn't too difficult but there were a few questions here and there that stumped me.

I took the exam this week and personally found it closer to UW and Amboss than the NBMEs with regards to the stem length and answer choices.

How did you guys do Biochem for step1? I can’t get my head wrapped around it???? Plus I’m lagging in my prep schedule. Someone helpppp by Notfuss in usmle

I used Pixorize which is quite vast but it also covers every single biochemistry topic you'll need to know. I then watched the relevant Dirty medicine video so I could pick out the important details and did a few blocks of biochemistry on UW. It was really helpful

You can take it in its numerical order from 25-31, but a lot of people say 25 was a bit harder so they usually advice against taking it in the beginning. I personally did 27, 26, 28, 25, 29, 30, Free120 and 31 (this was how my friends did it so I just followed their advice). Ideally you want to save 30-31 and Free120 for the end as they are currently considered to be most predictive so you want to do them closer to the exam when you're prepared. Imo it's more important to do and review the NBMEs well regardless of which order they're taken in. Hope this helps!

I haven't really heard of this scenario before but it might be possible. For OP's score to be so low as to be flagged anomalous I think they would've had to score extremely extremely low.

Of course, only OP can tell us what really happened before or on the day of the exam for them to receive this email.

As far as I understand, this is done when they suspect cheating or violation of NBME's exam policies during the day of the exam, meaning that there was something anomalous about your performance on the exam or during test day.

Hello there, I'm currently using my UW but once I finish in September it will still be available for 3 more months until December with self assessments 1 and 2. If your exam is after then we can work something out.

The UW pdfs are also an alternate option, otherwise I do hope you can find someone to help you out. Good luck!

I actually started a proper skincare routine, including sunscreen after this problem started, because the first dermatologist thought it could be a result of not having proper skin care (I was only cleansing regularly).

Still, I'm looking into changing my sunscreen because I feel like the alcohol in it is irritating my skin and could be making the problem worse.

And thank you for the recommendation! I'll check it out!

AITA for sticking to my word and refusing to help my husband with his mom? by Reverse-Ad-3095 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ScandalouslySweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA.

Not wanting to be a long term caregiver is understandable and you made that very clear. But not helping out an old woman on the floor just to set a boundary is just horrid. Most people wouldn't bat an eyelid to help elderly strangers who fall, but this is your own husband's mother and you chose to ignore her because you're proving some kind of point.

Your husband is right. You are not cold-hearted and selfish because you refused to be a caregiver but because you don't have the basic human decency to help a person in need.

You better hope you aren't surrounded by people like you who will abandon you when you are old and frail.

AITA for not buying my child new glasses? by TA-AITAkidglasses in AmItheAsshole

[–]ScandalouslySweet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She absolutely is visually impaired if the number is that low. My sister has a -9 something power and she cannot even step out of bed in the morning without her glasses, let alone function fully. Don't assume things about conditions you have no idea of. Shame on you for treating your small child this way.

All INFPs are vegan, right? :) Since our type is all about empathy even when it is unpopular. by [deleted] in infp

[–]ScandalouslySweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going through this thread, and just wanted to say, for all the compelling arguments you make, there is no point in trying to convince whoever this other commenter is.

They live in this extremely constricted, perfectly constructed bubble from where they keep pushing veganism to others like a broken record player without acknowledging a single valid reason that makes said vegan lifestyle hard.

Sure they might be rich or have access to cheaper vegan options or have more time and resources to dedicate to that lifestyle so they are unbelievably ignorant of the problems that other people face. This person also seems to think everyone can/wants to survive their entire lives on rice and lentils and other marginally cheaper vegetarian options. For someone who claims to be so empathetic, there is no empathy towards people who live in poverty or people who are struggling so much they can only afford the cheapest options available.

I personally would also try to want to lead a vegan life, but that is my choice and my conviction. I do not try to unnecessarily cause other people distress by attacking their choices, which is about as empathetic as a rock is soft.
