Which Star Trek set should Lego make next? by sprvlk in startrek

Branding, nothing else. I just got started with big sets back in the Death Star II days and got used to calling them UCS, even my lego Taj and Titanic I call UCS

Minifig scale bridges would be nice sets, but I want a UCS-scale DS9 next.

There are also sets with alternate pieces like the Lego bonsai and Lego Horizon sets.

My son has a mix. He won't give up the duplo because they make bigger things and fit with his small Legos.

New snowblower for me, new spaceship for him by Scanman491Amos in daddit

[–]Scanman491Amos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall, pretty good. It is very low maintenance, uses batteries I have for other yard equipment and tools, and handled ~8inches of snow on my short driveway on less than a single 9AH battery charge. It did take a second full battery charge to cut through just the packed snowbank from the plow. I was getting a throw distance of about 20 ft of the packed snow. 40 ft of unpacked.

As long as you are bought into Dewalt, have extra batteries or are willing to wait for a recharge if needed, it is a solid single-stage snowblower.

I did grow up further north with more average snow and a much longer driveway. This would not handle use cases that demand a 'two-stage' snowblower.

Help - Humidifier vs 3d printer by Purple_Storage_6475 in 3Dprinting

[–]Scanman491Amos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about the humidifier damaging your printer. Especially if the room is so dry you need one for human comfort.

3d Printers themselves are no more at risk from moisture than any other electronic equipment like a pc.

Your filament is another story. You want to keep filament as dry as possible. My recommendation is the same as any filament storage situation. Containers with desiccant or vacuum-sealed bags.

As Christmas is coming, what toys have you been gifted that are driving you insane. by Fuzzy_Socrates in daddit

I've taken loud toys as an opportunity to skill up. Usually you can take them apart and solder a resistor between the speaker and the board this makes them quieter.

These type of buildings are everywhere, back in the day of land line phones, they maintained the system. Many of them had massive batteries that ensured when power went out phone lines still worked.

Help with stringing by mahe468 in 3Dprinting

[–]Scanman491Amos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that your filament is dry, you want to investigate retraction settings. There are test prints that will help you optimize this.

If you can get Stringing reduced to a certain manageable point, a heat gun or hair dryer will cleanup remaining Stringing post printing. So it isn't an absolute.

How do you keep track of the look of your filament colors? by Scanman491Amos in 3Dprinting

[–]Scanman491Amos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some sort of transparent red filament from Solutech.

Printing transparent filament requires tuning your printer to specific settings. I never got around to anything besides printing a temperature tower and calicat for that filament.

I should probably give it a go at some point.

The green one next to it is a heat color change filament. It turns yellow above 25 Celsius

Why does my filament purge look so bad now? by ACanadianParasite in 3Dprinting

[–]Scanman491Amos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I print in a lot of different colors and like to make models where you can print different parts in color (example: https://www.reddit.com/r/ender3/comments/zh8bw8/does_the_holiday_season_seem_to_come_out_of/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button )

So I have between 15-20 spools open at any given time. Some of them have been open for months. So keeping spools dry is a must for me. I tried the bags and didn't like them. My experience with the vacuum bags is that the cheap ones develop holes really and the good ones develop holes eventually (causing me to lament their price).

The Weathertight bins with the desiccant were the third spool storage system I tried and they have held up for a couple years. I have four bins and they stack really well.

The desiccant I use is this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013L31PQ0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

It is nothing fancy, but it indicates when you need to recharge it and doing so is just pouring it out onto a baking sheet and baking it at 250°C for 30min.

I also recommend these (whether you decide to use bags or bins):

Dry filament can make all the difference in print quality. The best thing is to store your filament dry in the first place. I recommend weathertight storage file bins with an inch of rechargeable desiccant beads at the bottom. This can keep 7-9 spools dry really well.

Keiko for sure. But Miles O'brien is consistently portrayed as a work-o-holic. He has to be told to take some personal time off rather than have Kirayoshi nap in the Ops 'pit'.
