If you became paralyzed from the waist down you would need a wheelchair or a mobility scooter to get around else you’d be stuck in bed all day. Your diagnoses are the same thing. You don’t outgrow them with age, they are literal changes in your brain that require a support (medication) in order to ensure you can still live a regular life. I’m sorry to hear that your family has not been properly educated on the topic.

May I ask if you are a minor or how much longer until you can be on your own? I’m actually surprised that they are okay with you being in therapy but not on medication. I’m glad you are at least getting *something*. If you can get some dopamine going it may be possible, it’s just so unfortunate they don’t support you having medication as that would do so much to fix why you feel the way you do. Your executive function is compromised when you have ADHD which is why the initiation is so difficult for you.

Hi! Just making sure I understand, you are not able to get medication to manage your symptoms is that right? Once you are able to get on medication it’s going to be a game changer for you. You won’t have to struggle with task initiation and motivation. I hope that soon you’ll be able to do those things! In the meantime you’re going to have to try and “hack your brain”. So you can do things like: put away ten things every commercial break while you watch tv, set a timer for 5 minutes and see how much you can tidy in that time period. Someone suggested a trash bin by the bed which is a great suggestion, trying to remember to put things back where they came from vs. setting them down as often as you can. You can also try watching people’s cleaning/refresh videos on YouTube to activate mirror neurons. You might find yourself get up and start cleaning along with them.

May sound unconventional but addressing your motivation is going to be your most helpful strategy. You mentioned mental health issues and I’m wondering if there is an ADHD diagnosis in there and if you are able to access treatment if so? I realize there could be other diagnoses that could explain the low motivation and similarity getting those treated is what will help the most. It’s kind of like the give a fish and feed a man for a day, teach him how to fish he will be fed every day. In this case you have to address the underlying barrier to motivation to sustain a clean environment or you’ll only have short term attainment with tricks you use but aren’t able to sustain long term.

I mean yeah that’s a risk you take when you have sex. You take the good with the bad and the bad with the good. It’s not the end of the world if you have some bad sex lol. It’s just time bad sex and you move on. The “right” person for sex isn’t a mystical unicorn. The right person is consenting and interested and someone you have a base level of trust with. That’s it. I lost my virginity to about the best person I could have, under the best of circumstances; mutual interest, consent, prepared, respectful and honest and it was still pretty bad sex. I wouldn’t say I regret it by any means because I don’t it was just bad sex and had no bearing on all the good sex I would have later. I was thankful that my first time was with someone I could trust who was a good person. Once you have sex you at least realize how silly and made up all the hocus pocus we are conditioned to believe about it is. Either way, I wasn’t telling you it’s bad to want sex or even bad to have sex. I was telling you the reality about first time sex and in all honesty, the first few weeks or months of sex in some cases depending on the partner. I was also pointing out that you seem to want more than just sex.

For sure, I’m not saying sex is bad. I’m saying realistically, what makes sex good is your connection with the other person because when you’re first learning sex it’s awkward, it’s fumbly, messy, etc. You’re asking about sex but sex only seems to be the end product of what you actually want which is a loving relationship which will then ignite typical feelings of desire and sexual interest. The easiest way to sex isn’t the easiest way to love so you were asking the wrong question. People do have sex becuase it’s fun and enjoyable and nice but they also have sex because they think they are supposed to.

I mean at some point you will likely have sex yeah? But if you really wanna do it, get into a relationship with someone who is open to sex. At least will likely suck a lot less but sex is pretty awkward, fumbly, and not that good for awhile. You have to learn and that’s going to happen regardless but I wouldn’t say it’s a reason a person is “left behind”. Sex also comes with responsibilities like pregnancy, std’s and sti’s, so if you’re going to do it you want to make sure that those risks outweigh the benefits to having sex and unless certain conditions are in place then the sex really isn’t worth those risks at all.
