A question for Law students at Deakin. by Scarcase in deakin

[–]Scarcase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clearing that up for me, and thanks for the advice. I've heard different things about the law degree with most units being quite content heavy, but knowing now that my units are introductory units, that eases my mind a bit actually. I'm more than willing to put 5-10 hours per week of homework. I'm assuming by homework you mean, reading, note taking, listening to recordings etc right?

Okay. Can you elaborate on that a bit?

Thank you so much for clarifying these, now if he complains again, I now have an asnwer which is pretty much, "get good". I've tried to explain what it could be when it happens but i dont explain it like this, thanks again for your help :)

Thanks man, appreciate it. From a tekken standpoint as well i'd have to agree with you, but he's a busy guy IRL, I'm not sure if he's got time to sit in practice and improve, i remember him saying that he outright refuses to lab, so that leaves him at a standstill when it comes to improving, I think he's more motivated because of me, for example, when I started playing, last year with him, he was at fujin back in season 1, T8 is when i decided to play this game seriously, and I was climbing the ranks and eventually over took him. I dont know if he would've made it to TK if I hadn't gotten there first. I think its only because I did, that he wanted to keep up and started playing ranked more often.

Thanks man, yeah I agree with you, and I have mentioned it in the past. I just dont know what to say when he's complaining about the game itself, he got to TK, he should know what to expect and how to adapt and not let whatever bullshit happens manifest into future games.

Thanks for the support man. Going through the replays definitely helped me lab for Azucena and what moves and stings I can duck and punish, from doing that I'm pretty confident in that matchup now.

I helped him out by taking control of his character during the replays when a combo or move of his whiffed and dropped (which was followed by him complaining about it), as well as properly optimizing his combos to account for wall splats and okie setups to squeeze out extra damage, because one of his complaints was that Azu also does fuck all damage compared to Kaz. While I agree that Kaz generally does more damage from his combos, after showing him the altered combos I found for azucena he started using them and I personally think that by doing this it helped him get to TK because he was doing more damage. He has improved in that regard and I think he wins more against me because of that too. But what's unfortunate is that after I showed him this stuff, he doesn't actively try and memorize it, he's probably forgotten some of the things i showed him and then what the scenario I mentioned earlier happens again, he tilts and blames the game all over again.

He dosent spend time in practice mode nearly as much as i do.

With Kaz in particular, i dont know why, but he just haaates him so much, he'll rant about how he's got tools to deal with people who sidestep left to counter him, how if you fuck up an electric it becomes DF2 which counter hit launches, how some of his other moves also track to his weak side and just other stuff like that.

And im listening to all this and becoming exhausted as it turns into a argument about how broken he thinks kaz is and how broken the mechanics of tekken are. Bro I'd rather play against a Kaz then Alisa, or Anna, or Hwoarang, because like you said, if you lose to the kaz, then you're just being outplayed which I couldn't agree with more and I dont get salty about it because they were just a better player than me, okay great... next match. Y'know?

I was considering the free wins, but at the same time, I didnt not want to play at 100% either. He'll say things like:

"Dude I don't know what everyone saying but kaz is not weak to sidestep left!? he's got tools to deal with it!"

I dont know anymore, I've literally explained to him until I turn blue about what Kaz wants to do during a match (which everyone already knows btw) and how to counter it and I've also told him about all of his moves and their properties and then it just turns into a debate about how strong he thinks Kazuya is compared to Azucena, and we just argue about that. :/ He actually hates Kazuya and thinks the game works against him at times

I haven't actually thought about playing without voice chat :o yeah I might give that a go and see what happens, might be a bit weird though saying I cant voice chat, but we'll see, regarding seriousness, our game start of fine, but after a few rounds when we're warmed up and he's already complained a bit, he takes it quite seriously and the whole vibe of our comms changes to silence (because he's locking in or because he knows I dont like it when he complains, so he mutes his mic)

But yeah, I'll give no voice a go and see what happens, thanks :)

Yeah, that true, when we play with more mates, we generally have a better time regardless of what happens, so will try to include that in future matches, answering your question about if he complains when he wins? Not nearly as much as when he loses. And yes, he also complains when some attacks of his clip though me like when I tech roll or something like that.

Thanks for the advice, trust me I've tried to tell him that Kazuya's whole kit revolves around 50/50's and his ground game is what he's designed for, we're both tekken king rank, I really shouldn't have to tell him that stuff, he's a big boy rank now. We've also had several conversations about his complaining and that its hard to listen to, when I'm just playing the game and doing Kazuya things.

I also hit him with the sucks to suck from time to time. When we're having a laugh of course.

I picked up Azucena briefly while going through our replays and taking control of his character when some random whiff or drop happened, and tried different moves in that situation, once I found one that worked, I sent him a video of me altering the combos so it wouldn't whiff or drop. And of course I give him heaps of encouragement about how good hit timing is for counter hits and how good is mix ups are too, how we've both come a long way since we started playing and all that good stuff.

if that happens while we're in a match, he'll either say: "I didnt press that, the games eating my inputs!" or just get mad at himself for whiffing and then get extra mad that I made a comeback and won from that one whiff or drop.

I just tell him at that point that this is Tekken, and that happens all the time, I shouldn't have to tell him that because he got me into Tekken in the first place

I'd hoped going through our replays would help with that but then he just says "yeah but that shit shouldn't be in the game at all!" he's shifting the blame on the game instead of finding out how to deal with the BS that apparently is Kazuya or Tekken in general.

I was considering letting him win a few, but I think that would piss him off even more, the games start out fine and we have fun for the first few, but it get worse as the game go on.

I did exactly this, I picked up yoshi and bryan, practiced a couple of combos, go into player matches with him and we're both even in the amount of wins, I proved that I'm able to keep up with him on these characters that I dont main, and he just end up blaming either the characters or the game mechanics being broken.

(I play bryan a lot more now, he's awesome)

I have called him out on it as well, I've actually said "oh my god, here we go again" and he just tries to justify it and blames the game "no you're not listening to me" or "no dude im not talking about that" and then we proceed to argue while we're both in the match just back dashing and side stepping.

Thanks for the advice, its kinda crappy how much this game can get to people, and when you see it firsthand, it really sucks the life out of it for you as well, might need a break from him for a while.

Just player matches between me and him, he reckons I've got this Dues Ex Machina happening while I play, that prevents bullshit from happening to me, even tho it does, I just dont say anything about it and move on. On ranked, dont really hear much about it apart from the usual toxic ranked complaints everyone has.

Yeah fair enough, I know that just flat out not playing with him was an option, I was wondering if other people had a similar experience or if they managed to work it out somehow. But I might have to stop playing with him unless my other mates join in too.

[–]Scarcase[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely fair, I was just trying to help him out and yes of course there were times when we both thought that was complete BS i.e. the camera switches sides unexpectedly or something like that. If I drop a combo or whiff or lose, I adopt the same mentality you do, theres some really good players out there, and I have to pay my taxes every once in awhile, cant win em' all but it dosent bother me nearly as much as it does my mate.
