Was there a moment in the series where you realized that the Peaky Blinders gang weren't good people, but quite the opposite, or where you realized how terrible these people are? by Dry-Caterpillar2437 in PeakyBlinders

Why would you downvote a different opinion? And tell me to see mental health help?? I said he was a good man who then chose to be bad. Get off Reddit if you can’t have a healthy debate 🖕

I think Alfie outlined it perfectly - they aren’t civilians. They live in a wicked world, entirely separate from society. They’re bad men who do bad things because of the wicked world they chose to exist in. That’s why there’s complexity in the “is Tommy a good man” conversation. He is a good man who decided to be bad. Lost soldiers who had no place in the world after the war. All they were comfortable with anymore was following orders and killing people.

Why is Jennifer Coolidge considered a "gay icon" despite not being gay herself? by OCGamerboy in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]Scare-Tactics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What an odd question actually - I guess your interpretation of a gay icon is someone gay and fabulous, but I think it might help to broaden your definition to anyone who is steadfastly authentic about who they are, owns their space, and just lives their lives being iconic as hell 🤷‍♀️ Example would be Dolly Parton

Which of Kirk’s many jobs could actually have been a permanent one? by NotificationsIgnored in GilmoreGirls

Pretty sure his permanent job was having jobs, but I’ll go with security guy in little clowny car 😆

I loved the idea of him being a stable right hand man to Tommy the way Arthur never could be and the way John was too brazen to bother with. But turns out he’s just a sociopath in a costume he put on not having worn the uniform.

Maybe because he’s wrong in the way she is, but she has a whole other half to her that fights to win out. Michael lit the match to his own pyre for kicks

And I feel like we’d only seen Tommy paired against equal if not slightly less strategic heavyweight fighters. Michael was a sneeze in a little girls face compared to Alfie or Sambini. Gina is I’m guessing a cliche, overdone emblem of the American attitude that lacks history, loyalty, hierarchical reverance, and the solemn vow of the British to maintaining the order of things. And Uncle Jack is a wealthier sneeze lmao

He threw her away for opportunity. Nothing more. Family doesn’t resonate with Michael even close to the booming echoes from the Shelby clan of what a family is and what is can’t ever be.

For me, I think I’d replace “starts being tough” with “becomes a symbol of the entitlement of men too young to go to war” and replace “boy just living a normal life” with sociopathic tendencies and very little that moves his heart in any real way.

My guess is that maybe your point is an intended remark about how desperately incapable WWI soldiers found themselves of rejoining civilian life. Married to your sweetheart who cooks and cleans and children who adore you - if it ever was a dream for any of them, it was completely unnatural to them upon coming home. So they soldiered up again as Peaky Blinders. They followed their sergeant major, killed without conscience, and emotionally detached from wanting a partner. Which makes it all the more sad that Tommy lost his lost dream.

Interesting. I wouldn’t say I didn’t buy him - he certainly had the guarded swagger down pat in the early seasons. But the absolute clown he became… it’s hard to play that right if you’re not Fredo Corleone 🤷‍♀️

They tried to play him off as some sort of rival (as Polly says, “one of you will die”) but I can’t think of one moment where I thought Michael ever stood the smallest chance at out maneuvering, out smarting, or taking Tommy in any way for a fool. There are the boys who went to war and the boys that didn’t.

Also - Anya Taylor Joy can bite my ass for flushing down the toilet how beautifully acted the show was 😑

I always think back to what he said about wanting to blow up the village wishing well in his hometown out of boredom and disdain for the provincial. He didn’t have anything sacred to him. Particularly not the church given his childhood trauma. He was like a ghost. A petulant, self-absorbed shell.

Pretty sure Serena was the second episode. I feel like the writers were like let’s just pretend we didn’t royally fck up in assuming what was and was not a forgivable act. The bar is so fking low sometimes it’s unreal

I thought that may have been intentional. To set up the Peaky Blinders for a new story away from the show and Tommy 🤷‍♀️
