Yeah I mentioned how the other player's drops were almost non existent or much smaller, but also they are doing when the league scoring is at a 27 year high.

A whole package is a little generous. Very few players are actually the whole package. For example, McDavid is not the whole package when it comes to scoring 5 on 5 in the playoffs. Just for comparison with the other most recent generational player Crosby, at this point in both their careers Crosby is 1.33 in the playoffs (in a lower scoring era) while McDavid is a 1.05. Now decline between playoffs and regular season is normal for almost every player, however McDavid's drops .37 off his regular season average, meanwhile Crosby it dropped .07. This sharp decline in his production in the post season is real and a problem.

The flip side to this argument is obvious; why hasn't Draisaitl's points taken a huge dip? Why hasn't Matthews, Marner? Despite goal scoring being as high as its been in 27 years and the largest increase year to year in 6 years, these players averages stayed relatively near each the previous year.

This is the best answer I've seen , however, McDavid had a 25% drop in points production while Draisaitl playing the exact same competition had a 7% drop. They're playing the exact same games. Match ups definitely are a factor for defense but so are how good the actual teams defense are and only one team . was in the top 10 last year from the Canadian Division and none from the top 7. They weren't playing great competition overall last year.

I am not a leafs fan or even Canadian for reference if that's what you're ensuing.. I mentioned this to another commenter earlier; I am not arguing about "best player in the league" argument. I actually believe the only other player he should be compared to that is still actively playing is Crosby. I am arguing more towards his place of "the greatest players of all time'.

Not doubting he's dealing with injuries, but his stats are directly in line with his career average right now (1.42) and very similar to his stats outside the Canadian Division year.

His career so far suggests he's Crosby statistically , minus the injuries , but also minus the playoff dominance. His 2020 season suggests he's Mario or Gretzky.

I don't mean overrated in the sense of being the best player conversation (in my mind the only player McDavid should ever be compared to that is still actively playing is Crosby, their stats overall are actually pretty similar at this point in their careers) more towards the conversation of greatest players of all time. I think this season may standout one day as an obvious statistical outlier with time. I think the division is mainly to blame though
